Sundays Off??

I am trying to brainstorm...what types of nursing jobs are out there that give you Sundays off (or at least most Sundays)? And are there such jobs that also operate on 12-hr shifts? I know doctor's offices would be M-F with buisness hrs, but they usually pay quite a bit less (where I am, just over 50% less) than hospitals, long-term care, etc.

I would think that 12-hour shifts would be found at most 24-hour facilities, and therefore would usually include weekends. We do have a couple of surgi-centers that do 12-hour shifts a couple of days a week and are closed on Sundays. Also, our community health services has some 12-hour days, but I know their pay is considerably less as well. I believe they are salaried. Oh, maybe hospice/home health? A friend of mine just switched, and she kept her 3-12's. I don't know for certain what her weekend requirements are. I think she shares call hours for weekends.

I rarely work Sundays, because I usually work extra Saturdays....so I meet my weekend requirement that way.

A friend of mine who works home health does not work Sundays regularly but she does have to take call 1-2X/month on Sundays. Sometimes she gets called out, other times not.

No weekends with school nursing but lots less money.

I work in a hospital that has a weekend program ..... there are a certain group of people that work the weekends and they get paid more for doing so.

Benefits them because it works for them and their families, and they get paid more.

Benefits the rest of us that don't want to work weekends, because we rarely have to.

I can't remember the last time I worked a Sunday ..... it's been well over a year.

I work in dialysis and we always have Sundays off because we are closed. We work 4-10's and rotate every other Saturday. At least I can always count on one day that I know I will be off:yeah:

some of the regular full-time'ers on my floor don't work Sundays, because they choose to work every single Saturday. The only downside to this is they seldom get a whole weekend off.

I work HH with VNA. I work M - F. Do not work any weekends. Am on-call Fri and Sat nights every 5-6th weekend.

Same here...our hospital has weekend option staff. They work 24hrs (Sat/Sun) and but get paid for F/T.

Free-standing outpatient surgery centers. No weekends. No holidays.

As you can see, there are such options but of course you have to give up something too. If you want Sundays off, you're probably going to be doing alot of Saturdays, if you want a 12 hour shift. I know a bunch of people who do this, but it also depends on the unit and your place on the totem pole: don't expect to come in as the new person and get all your Sundays off at my hospital. But if you've been there awhile, you certainly can work it out.

Choose your facility wisely!

when i worked dialysis i had sundays off although there were on call times that included sundays.

Thanks everyone! :yeah:These are all good ideas. For me I would be THRILLED to get 12 hr shifts in an OB dept and just meet my weekend requirements with Saturdays (well, or even better if the hospital has special weekend staff as someone mentioned :D).
