Any thoughts on Iguana, Urbane or Dickies Scrubs?
Where are these Urbane tops with pockets on each side?? That's just what I need! I love Urbane scrubs, but those tops just don't have enough pockets. I got cargo pants to help make up for what the tops lack in pockets. I've had Landau & Cherokee brands before. Didn't like Cherokee at all, they weren't a very cute, feminine cute and the bottom were slightly short on me, which looks really stupid in a flare leg style. Landau is OK...I wasn't thrilled with their pants (again the flare leg was just a tad too short on me), and while the tops are AWESOME for pockets, they are so long on me that it looks sloppy. Some people complain that Urbane tops are too short, but I think they're perfect (except for the pocket issue, lol).

Use Classic II SE on Peds? Or Cardiology III?
I posted on the stethoscope discussion board and didn't get any replies, so I thought you ped nurses might be able to offer advice....I am a new grad RN and will be starting an internship in a few weeks for a Post-Surg Unit that also has a few peds on it. The peds they put in this unit are typically in with stomach flu, dehydration, RSV, etc.--definately not the tramua cases or higher acuity. I want to pick out a stethoscope that is good on peds as well as adults; the scope I used in college is a $20 no-name, I feel like it is time to upgrade. I am looking at the Littman Classic II SE and Cardiology III. Do you think the Classic II SE is suitable for use on peds? I don't want to get a special peds scope if I don't have to because my hope is to get into the Post-Partum Unit after 1-2 yrs of Med/Surg experience. (I want to get what I NEED, but not more than that.)

How to dress for lecture part of internship??
I'm starting an internship for my new job in a few weeks--it is half hands on, half lecture/bookwork. Anyone who has already been thru an internship program, can you tell me how most people dressed? At first I was going to do buisness casual, but then I thought maybe all these fresh out of college folks would tend to just wear jeans (after all, we wore jeans to college lectures). I certainly prefer jeans myself, so if I could get away with it, that would be awesome....but, of course, I don't want to under dress either and look careless!

Best shoes ever?
I am pretty happy with New Balance. I'm on my 3rd pair from them, about to buy more (I get them buy one, get one half off at Famous Footwear). My chiropractor got me started on them...she also gave me the tip that the higher numbers they are more supportive. I've also found that wearing TED hose keeps my feet a LOT more comfortable!!

Classic II SE vs. Cardiology III
I am trying to decide between a Littman Classic II SE or a Cardiology III. I will be on a post-surgical unit, but this unit also has some peds (including babies that are only a few days old), and it sounds like the Cardiology III would be better for peds. I am not sure if the hospital has neonate scopes on hand to use--that is probably something I should ask before I buy anything. I want to make sure I can hear everything I need to when doing my assessments; that is so frustrating when you can't hear! But I am not sure if I truly need the Cardiology III or if the Classic II SE is plenty good for my purposed? I hope to get into post-partum after a yr or 2, so that makes it different than if I was trying to get into say ICU. Right now I have some no-name $20 scope that works just OK. I am willing to pay more to get something that makes my job easier...I have been reading this stethoscope section and it sounds like everybody really loves their Littmans. I guess my biggest question is how does the Classic II SE work on peds? Does anyone who works on peds use the Classic II SE or is it unsuitable?

Stethoscope Reccomendations?
The stethoscope discussion board is awesome! Never realized there was a section like that on here. I remember my teachers making reccomendations at school, but I could not remember what brand they had said (Littman, of course, lol).

When does my license need to be renewed??
I emailed the Texas board of nursing and they gave me the same date to renew that the online verify a license thing gave me. Basically my birthday is in Oct and I was born on a odd year, so I have to renew by Oct 31 on each odd year (2009, 2011, 2013...).

Stethoscope Reccomendations?
I'm a new grad and just got a job on a post-surgical unit....What brands & types of stethoscopes are good? I had a $20 stethoscope in college & for a year working as a LPN, but now I think it is time for an upgrade. Want to make sure I can hear everything I need to! Also, any suggestions on websites to buy from would be appreciated.

When does my license need to be renewed??
I went to the verify a license online thing and it worked! Thank you! The odd/even year tip is good too, just every other year on your birthday month it seems. I didn't get a wallet size license, only a full size one.

When does my license need to be renewed??
In November of this year I had my RN license endorsed to Texas:D. It has the date it was issued on it, but I don't see anything about when the license expires. Does anyone know? I was reading the CE booklet they included and it sounded like the expiration date can vary and may have something to do with when your birthday falls...mine is in October.

New Jurisprudence Exam
I am moving from Michigan to Texas next month. I looked online about transfering my RN license to Texas--I guess it is called "be endorsement"--and I see one of the things I need to do is take a Jurisprudence Exam. They say it is online exam, takes up to 2 hrs, and is based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act and the Texas Board of Nursing Rules and Regulation. I looked at those documents on their website, just browsed through, didn't read all of it, but it seemes quite, er, "mumble jumbly". So I am wondering to anyone who has taken this exam before, is it a really hard exam that you have to study well for? Or can you wing it? I really question whether anyone reads all of those documents. My NCLEX shut off at the minimum number of questions ( I just graduated in May), but this Jurisprudence Exam seems a lot different than the NCLEX.

DFW Hospitals offering "Weekend Option Staff"??
OK, actually, I do not want to be weekend option staff myself. I am trying to avoid working Sundays (or at least not every other Sunday) and still be at a hospital and someone suggested looking for a hospital with this feature.

DFW Hospitals offering "Weekend Option Staff"??

Sundays Off??
Thanks everyone! :yeah:These are all good ideas. For me I would be THRILLED to get 12 hr shifts in an OB dept and just meet my weekend requirements with Saturdays (well, or even better if the hospital has special weekend staff as someone mentioned ).

Sundays Off??
I am trying to brainstorm...what types of nursing jobs are out there that give you Sundays off (or at least most Sundays)? And are there such jobs that also operate on 12-hr shifts? I know doctor's offices would be M-F with buisness hrs, but they usually pay quite a bit less (where I am, just over 50% less) than hospitals, long-term care, etc.
