Summer 2012 - Check in

Published

OK, since enrollment for Summer 2012 is close to starting, I figured I'd get the ball rolling for those of us who are taking courses this summer.

What courses are you taking? Is this your first time taking the class? When will you apply for nursing school?

Good luck to you all and let's keep each other updated on our summer classes in this thread :D

Leximena kudos to you!! I personally have to buckle down and study extremely hard at Math. I did take an intermediate course last summer and came out with a C. I had College Algebra this past spring and managed a B. I have to start studying for the Teas in July with the hopes of taking the test in August. Then I can apply for the nursing program with the hopes of getting accepted into the Fall 2013 program. Good luck to us both!!

Pharmacology is stressing me out! I'm barely pulling an A in the class (I think I'm sitting at a 92% right now) and it's only getting more difficult. Very frustrating.

Plus I'm sort of concerned that I'm not actually committing any of this into long-term memory, and that it may come back to bite me in the booty.

Kind of annoyed that I never had any problems with any of my prereqs and now I'm magically stressing over my first nursing class, but oh well. I new it was going to be more tough!

I am taking A&P1 Mon-Thursday 5:30 till 10:30 in the first five week summer session. I am also taking Intermediate Algebra online. Both classes end July 6th and then my next round of summer classes begin on July 9th. For the second session, I am taking Microbiology Mon-Thursday 5:30 till 10:30 and Lifespan online. My husband has been very supportive and so has my three girls. They are out for the summer. It still it rough though! I am taking my Teas test on July 11th and I am so nervous because I haven't really had much time to study for that with such a packed schedule.

Our last chem test had tons of formulas and I thought I had everything down. I ended up getting the lowest test score since starting my pre-reqs, an 86%. I haven't had a test under 90% in any of my other classes.

And the reason are stupid things. I missed 3 questions on the test.

1) Didn't convert Celsius into kelvin.

2) Understood question but needed to provide compound with least moles, flipped it around and provided compound with most

3) slightly tricky question which extrapolated on questions we did previously. I asked the teacher about the question and he understood my confusion because we did questions on our homework that had similar answers to mine. He agreed it was a slightly confusing question as it could've been taken 1 of two ways. He also said most people missed the question and answered like me.

So missing those 3 questions earned me a B. In the future, I will check to make sure I work in Kelvin and re-read the question to make sure I'm answering it right. The last question I missed, not sure what would've helped me there.

Wow, I'm taking 2 5 week science classes and they are HARD!! A&P1 and General Chem. I am used to getting A's - especially when I put in the effort - but with these classes I'm putting in effort but it's still super difficult. These are tough classes to take in a condensed format. Looks like I may have to settle for B's - it may even be a C+ in the Chemistry class. Well we shall see. Off to study!!

I just finished taking AP and now I'm taking AP II. The class started on June 20th and ends on July 27th and I go to class from 9:15 until 1:30 Monday-Thursday. I will take Micro in August and I will apply for the program in September.

Oh yeah......I haven't taken the TEAS yet, so I have to do that first before I apply and I hope all goes well.

I just realized that my pathophysiology, nutrition, and government class will be over the second week of July I am very happy. My Intro to nursing class starts in July and ends in August right before Nursing school. I am super excited how fast this summer is going!

I start my next class A&P 2 on Tuesday, right after my A&P1 final. No break :(!

I'm taking statistics, microbiology, & world history! Micro is going well so far, & stats is definitely a challenge for me, but I'm hanging in there.. Good luck to everyone!

I just started my online classes yesterday - Nutrition and Developmental Psych.....can already tell it will be a busy 8 weeks :-)

Got my final grade for Chem class and ended up with a B. Considering my professor was awful and I taught myself everything, I'm pretty proud of the turn out. I'm mailing off my nursing school application tomorrow and now I will spend the rest of my summer studying for the entrance exam.

Chem is scaring me but maybe I should relax. If I make a mid to high B on the rest of our tests (2 tests, 1 final), I can get an A in the class.

A lot of the points we get dinged for seem pretty arbitrary. For our lab grades, we do these multiple page write-ups and if we misstate something or our observations don't match the expected observations, we get dinged. For a 8 page write-up, multiple calculations, etc - it is worth 20 points. State one thing wrong... get 1-2 points off. I'm getting an A in the lab portion despite that but it is frustrating.

So we had a test last night, then next week we have a test on Monday and our final on Thursday. I'm definitely feeling the stress and I keep telling myself just 1 more week. If I end up getting a B in the class, I'll survive. I want a damn A though :)
