Expert advice on passing your 1st semester
I recently graduated an ABSN program and my bit of advice is to get in the habit of doing NCLEX questions daily early on - even when your answers are wrong they are good learning opportunities when reviewing the rationale for both right and wrong answers. I started by doing 4-5 day (on most days) in the second term of my program and increased the number incrementally to 25 (minimum) pay day throughout my last term. Passed NCLEX on first attempt with 75 questions.

I want to be a neonatal nurse, help pleas
The prerequisites are important as they help provide a well-rounded base knowledge before beginning the nursing curriculum. Try not to look at these as an obstacle but rather opportunities to become a better nursing school candidate :-)

Have we all thought about??
As a new grad hoping to get into the NICU, I would love it :-)

Pregnant and nursing school?
While pregnancy may not be ideal during nursing school it happens. I recently found myself pregnant with our number 4 .. not planned and very unexpected. Luckily I am due after we graduate and I hope for an uneventful pregnancy. I wish you a long and healthy pregnancy. It can be done. You need to find your inner strength and garner up a good support network to help you through. Blessings to you.

Does anyone enjoy Nursing School?
Nursing school is great and I love it. It is a lot of hard work and you will be very busy! I go home on the weekends to see my kiddos but am away during the week which is hard for me. However, the only weekend I have missed with them so far (2 terms) will be this upcoming one as we have finals next week and I really need time to focus. Stay positive and optimistic - your nursing school experience is yours! Congrats on getting into the program.

Anatomy and Physiology
We used primarily cats - 4 students per cat with the same cats used throughout our 3 A&P classes. We also looked at elk hearts and eyeballs (fresh due to hunting season) and a few other preserved animals parts. edited to add - before you do an online class, make sure to check if your nursing school of choice require an A&P laboratory component - most schools want you to have some hands on experience

Making the best choice
Last week brought a lot of happy news! Monday I got my point confirmation for a local ADN program with enough points to get the invitation for the proctored essay....(I have since declined my essay spot to leave room for someone else). Wednesday I got email confirmation for fall start in an accelerated BSN program in the midwest. Thursday I got a call from an in state school with acceptance for summer start. Yes.... I am in!!! Somewhere!! I realize that this is a great predicament to have and I am very very excited. However, it does not make my decision process any easier. The ADN program is out but choosing between the two ABSN programs is quite difficult. I am looking at tons of details and getting lost! For those of you who had a choice how did you make your decision of one program over the other. I have set up a metric to look at the pros and cons: School reputation and NCLEX rates Overall cost Program length and scheduling (one program is 22 months, primarily evening and weekend and will not conflict with children's school; the other program is 16 months, start sooner but is Monday to Friday) Moving distance & cost (moving is expensive and the school further away is about $10K more) Family (moving far means closer to family, staying in state means no family around - also note that my husband is not working locally) Continuation of dental treatment (I and two of my children are currently sporting fashionable braces and moving far will make things a tad bit complicated for continuation of care) Any advice is very much appreciated :-)
