  1. Graduated in September, had baby 5 days later, took NCLEX in October ... then love a few months off with baby. Got hired on an LDRP unit with start in January as my first nursing job and I LOVE it!!!
  2. I am new to a LDRP unit - love it!!! One of my go-to references is the following: Oxorn Foote Human Labor and Birth, Sixth Edition: 9780071740289: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com Good luck with your interview :-)
  3. I got my job offer this morning.....I am so excited :-)
  4. I just interviewed for an LDRP position .... keeping my fingers crossed and anxiously waiting to hear back :-)
  5. I recently graduated an ABSN program and my bit of advice is to get in the habit of doing NCLEX questions daily early on - even when your answers are wrong they are good learning opportunities when reviewing the rationale for both right and wrong answers. I started by doing 4-5 day (on most days) in the second term of my program and increased the number incrementally to 25 (minimum) pay day throughout my last term. Passed NCLEX on first attempt with 75 questions.
  6. The prerequisites are important as they help provide a well-rounded base knowledge before beginning the nursing curriculum. Try not to look at these as an obstacle but rather opportunities to become a better nursing school candidate :-)
  7. As a new grad hoping to get into the NICU, I would love it :-)
  8. I took mine on Thursday and had official results form my state board of nursing on Friday morning - before they were available on the Pearson site!
  9. Woohoo...congrats! I just passed mine last week with 75 questions. I know you are excited to be done!
  10. While pregnancy may not be ideal during nursing school it happens. I recently found myself pregnant with our number 4 .. not planned and very unexpected. Luckily I am due after we graduate and I hope for an uneventful pregnancy. I wish you a long and healthy pregnancy. It can be done. You need to find your inner strength and garner up a good support network to help you through. Blessings to you.
  11. Nursing school is great and I love it. It is a lot of hard work and you will be very busy! I go home on the weekends to see my kiddos but am away during the week which is hard for me. However, the only weekend I have missed with them so far (2 terms) will be this upcoming one as we have finals next week and I really need time to focus. Stay positive and optimistic - your nursing school experience is yours! Congrats on getting into the program.
  12. We used primarily cats - 4 students per cat with the same cats used throughout our 3 A&P classes. We also looked at elk hearts and eyeballs (fresh due to hunting season) and a few other preserved animals parts. edited to add - before you do an online class, make sure to check if your nursing school of choice require an A&P laboratory component - most schools want you to have some hands on experience
  13. There is no time in the package I received - probably plan for all day. Looking forward to meeting you.
  14. Awesome for you! I am in summer too - looking forward to meeting you :-)
  15. Last week brought a lot of happy news! Monday I got my point confirmation for a local ADN program with enough points to get the invitation for the proctored essay....(I have since declined my essay spot to leave room for someone else). Wednesday I got email confirmation for fall start in an accelerated BSN program in the midwest. Thursday I got a call from an in state school with acceptance for summer start. Yes.... I am in!!! Somewhere!! I realize that this is a great predicament to have and I am very very excited. However, it does not make my decision process any easier. The ADN program is out but choosing between the two ABSN programs is quite difficult. I am looking at tons of details and getting lost! For those of you who had a choice how did you make your decision of one program over the other. I have set up a metric to look at the pros and cons: School reputation and NCLEX rates Overall cost Program length and scheduling (one program is 22 months, primarily evening and weekend and will not conflict with children's school; the other program is 16 months, start sooner but is Monday to Friday) Moving distance & cost (moving is expensive and the school further away is about $10K more) Family (moving far means closer to family, staying in state means no family around - also note that my husband is not working locally) Continuation of dental treatment (I and two of my children are currently sporting fashionable braces and moving far will make things a tad bit complicated for continuation of care) Any advice is very much appreciated :-)
  16. I got my call this morning too ... so excited!!!
  17. No news yet. I was just accepted to a program in the Midwest that has a really good schedule for my family situation (nights and weekends) ... so that is likely where I am headed :-)
  18. May 1st is just a few days away ... fellow wait-listers hopefully that means good news for us soon ... waiting is driving me bonkers!!
  19. yep .. right there with all of you. Wonder how many is on the "highly likely" list
  20. Given this detail, you have family support - and I assume that perhaps you will be living with family as well. I do not think you are being unreasonable. But it will take a toll on your marriage as well as on your children and you have to make a conscious effort to minimize that strain. You will each be able to travel on the weekends and you have to make family time a priority during those times. As parents we all make decisions and no one else can dictate the best decisions for you and your family. My husband went out of state to PA school and has since traveled and worked in several locations taking him away from living at home full time and we are no where close to any family (our children were 9, 7 and 3 at the time). While it was a big adjustment for all of us, it afforded him to pursue his dreams of school and carry on with some exciting work that he loves. I do not always love being here alone with the kiddos but I can and I support his goals for what he wants to achieve. I know now that I want to return to school for nursing, he is there for me and supporting my goals as well. Granted our children are older than yours (now 13, 12, 8), they understand more and can skype/call with Dad when they want during the evening hours and they spend lots of quality time with him when he is here. Good luck with your decision!
  21. So exciting .. big congrats to you :-)
  22. I am an alternate as well .... seems like there are quite a few of us. It will be interesting to see what is in the letters when they arrive. Congrats to those of you who have been accepted ... I wish you much luck :-)
  23. Great article .. thanks for sharing
  24. Life is not fair ... and nothing is constant but change. Yes it sucks that you did not pass the class and yes it suck that you will have to repeat a class that you already passed....but you know 1/2 the material and it should be easier the second time around. Try not to look at it as a waste of time but as an opportunity to hone your skills and get better. Do not let your anger and frustration cloud your decision making. If you want to be a nurse, let it go, move on, and retake the classes ... in the grand scheme of things it is just a little set back. Good luck!
