Student Nurse "Help me!" Threads

Published

I think I'm done answering student nurse help me threads here.

I've gotten rude answers, or they never even bother coming back to the thread to acknowledge the answers they received.

Some will ask life choice questions like "Where should I move?" or "Where should I apply?". Do they think someone is going to offer them a job here, is that why they start these threads? You have the whole internet to research towns, cities, regions, but instead you post a thread asking a bunch of strangers where you should move?

Some help me threads seem to be 'Help me do my homework' threads.

Thank you for reading.

To sarahrnay: I can appreciate that you are coming from the perspective of a new grad (or current student) and it sounds to me like you have encountered some opposition wherever you are currently working. These experiences may have given you a sour taste that is being reflected in your responses here. It isn't fair to make generalizations. I'm not even a nursing student, yet, so I have no experiences of my own, but these nurses have offered some pretty sage advice and you have met their comments with overtly negative responses. The OP expressed some frustrations with the repetitive nature of some of the student posts on here, and I have to agree with them. It is a generalized reflection of so many (not all, but many) members of the younger generation that expects instantaneous results with the least amount of effort. I, myself, have marveled at the nature of some of the questions on here: "I need an all-online nursing school, and don't just tell me that they don't exist!" or "I have received a D in A & P, are there any school out there willing to take me?? I really don't want to take it again..." Try to look at this from their perspective. These nurses have years of experience and many have taken time out of their busy days to respond to student posts, only to be attacked or ignored. I'd be frustrated, too. I am sure that any student who responds thoughtfully and with prejudice will be given an appropriate answer.

Good grief. Can't we just rant in peace??

Yes...PUHleezze!!

We get into a good groove of ranting, then the sensitive finger-waggers weigh in with a chip on their shoulder, traumatic flash backs in tow, totally missing the point by a mile...totally forgetting there are three fingers pointing back at them...sheesh. :sarcastic:

I'm not old, but I'm frequently crusty! Can I be an honorary member?

Sure, but then you cannot call yourself a "Crusty OLD Bat."

As a pre-nursing student, I would like to take a moment to thank you all for the sage wisdom that you pass on. I am sorry say that even as a pre-student some of these posts are really something else. I wonder what is going to happen when some of these people finally get into a school or even a hospital. These days it seems most do not want to put in the leg work to figure things out.

TRUST me, most of the posters who help are TRYING to keep people from jumping off the ledge-they do

Yes, but do you know where it came from?

If they don't, I do....

I'm just singing your praises--you "get" it. I'm happy to help people with your type of attitude!

I'm only taking a guess here, but I seriously doubt you are the type of student that the OP was referencing...and it doesn't sound like you'd be making the type of post referred to, either.

Surely you do understand the need to vent about repetitiveness, and stupidity, as you mentioned....? We all have to blow off steam.

Hang in there :)

Absolutely understood :). Just playing devil's advocate. Vent away :)

I completely understand. Many people think that people are nasty when they try to help impart common sense. But we all know that common sense is not common. And I vow not to ask silly questions.
