ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
There are supposed to be some new tabs on the main page when you login.. one of which will say "New Student". You can check out last year's hubbub if you look up "stony brook 2010".I have a question for everyone (off topic from SB): how impacted / competitive are the community colleges ADN programs in your area? I am from California, and in general I have heard that all the community colleges here are swamped with students, so much so that there are lotteries to even be placed on a waiting list several hundred students (several semesters of wait time) long.
I live on Long Island not far from SB and the community colleges here are very competitive as well. I don't think it's as bad as California, but there is definitely a wait list. From what I have learned at one of the info seminars, they don't even have you write an essay or get letters of recommendation, they just go by your grades, starting with the 4.0 and working their way down.
Hey all, I know it has been forever since I was on the thread, but I was losing my mind with my transcripts! Because I'm from Canada, I had to get them re-transcribed from this World Education Services and my university in toronto forgot to officially stamp it and well...it turned out to be a mess and of course it happens during my finals....but now all is well! Anyway, I'm back in Toronto (until school begins on the 31st) now and have just began to catch up with the threads and all I can say is wow is it ever super anxious!!!
For everyone who thinks that Paco is not anxious....well he is anxious but he knows that at this point there is nothing he can do! He just has to wait it out! By the way Paco....I have missed you and have kept you in my prayers! Congrats on Drexel, although you declined their offer, it should give you the confidence that you definitely are a remarkable candidate for any nursing school! Hope all is well with you! Gosh how I missed writing on this thread! LOL
Hi Folks. Newby here. I had applied for the SBU 2 year and SCCC day program Fall 2011) and I really appreciated reading all the information on this thread, it has been very helpful. I know that SCCC has informational meetings with admissions about every month or so and I attended one last year. I have heard people allude to something like that at SBU but I can't seem to find anything on their website. Does anyone know if this exists and, if so where I can find the info?
Thank you, and best of luck to all of you sitting on the edge of your seat for the accelerated program. Its nice to see so much support for each other, and coping suggestions during this stressful time. Who says we weren't paying attention during those Psych classes!

Agree! I have a friend who got 4.0 from the prereq and he still couldn't get in to SCCC... He told me that they put all the applicants with their grades on excel and then sort them, whoever is on the top % will be accepted... and yea, theres no essays or recommendations needed...

Welcome to our thread!!
For SBU info session, here's what i saw on the website:
"Information for the School of Nursing information sessions can be made by calling the office of Student Affairs at (631) 444-3200 (option 8). Seating is limited, so please call to reserve your seat "
I applied to the 2yr and SCCC ammerman day too!! good luck to you too!! :)

It's hard to find that info on their website for some reason! I went to an information session at Stony Brook a few months back. I had to call and reserve a seat. The flyer I got from them when I went says there are no info sessions available in January and February. I would call the school of nursing and ask when they will hold a session in March so you could reserve a seat.

Aw shucks! Thanks lisa_toronto! :)
As for being anxious, I can't lie and say that I am not, but it's not to the extent that I can't function. I really can't do anything to change my application, only consoled in the fact that I gave it my best shot. To be perfectly honest, the only time I think about the waiting game is when I check allnurses.com ... other than that, my life is consumed with so many other things regarding work and other concerns. This is probably why I have not bothered checking SOLAR, I'm just freaking swamped! And I don't even have that site bookmarked, I literally would have to go back in the original email we got and click the link in there.

Many schools in FL are the same way ... no recommendations or essays. It's all about the numbers! It's kind of unnerving to just be judged on how you did just on your courses and on an entrance exam.
