  1. I haven't posted anything in forever but I just got this email a few minutes ago: The School of Nursing has needed additional time for admissions processes and requests that you check your emails in mid-May for notification of decision information. We apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely appreciate your patience as application review continues. Thank you. Grrr the torture continues
  2. For all those wondering about interviews, SBU used to conduct them. I guess when 700 people started applying it became too time consuming for them. At the info session I went to last year, the person who spoke to us said that he would love to have the interviews back. As we all know, some people look great on paper but are totally different in person. I personally would like to have them interview people again. I know it would have given myself and others a chance to stand out especially with the program being so competitive but for now I guess we just have to be confident that we put our best foot forward. Hope everyone is doing well and not going too crazy :)
  3. I thought about applying to Pace but I have only heard bad things about their program. What do you guys know about it?
  4. You're right, I do have an actual grade for the class but I would need to get a transcript from that school so they would be able to see it. I guess it all worked out either way. For my 2 year app I'll include it.
  5. I planned on putting in my grade and hoping for the best. I was having trouble uploading my essay and when everything finally worked I ended up clicking submit before I went back to change it. So plan to take it is. If I get in, I'll deal with that when the time comes. I'm trying to stay stress free! How are you liking the program so far? How was the HESI exam? I have to take that for a school I'm applying to and I have heard different things about it although I'm not sure it would be exactly the same as what you took. I believe they exclude chemistry and physics. Even though I ended up putting plan to take I don't think they will see that I have already completed it before. I took chemistry at another school one summer during my undergrad years and transfered the credits to my university. On my transcript it shows the transfer credits and the school where I completed it but not the class or grade I received. It's out of my hands now, I just hope I make it in to either program I applied to at Stony Brook. Fingers crossed!
  6. One more thing.... Paco- Do you know of any people in your class who have got in while planning to still complete one pre-req? I'm debating whether I should submit my not so great chem grade and show that all my pre-reqs are completed or select "plan to take on my application." I know we probably went over this in last year's thread but it's soooo long to go through. If anyone else has some insight please let me know, thanks!
  7. Hi everyone! I was also part of last year's thread and like chele118 I went into hiding. I see some familiar names on here (hey Paco69, dr3amygirl, chele118, kay1024! :)) I decided to come back because having everyone's support was great last year. I'm reapplying for the 1 year and 2 year programs and hoping to make it in this year. I'm also looking into a few other schools to have some other options unlike last year. Good luck everyone!
  8. Hi Paco! Nothin' new around these parts. I'm trying to work my hospital contacts (where I volunteer) to get a job there. It's funny when I went in for my shift at the hospital last week, I was talking to one of the nurses and she asked me what I wanted to go to school for. I told her I'm planning to go for my second degree in nursing. She suggested I go to school to be a physician's assistant because "nursing isn't all it's cracked up to be". I was thinking, that's not very encouraging but none the less I did a little research on it and maybe that's something else I can consider for next year along with reapplying to nursing school. I hope your packing is going well, trying to put your whole life in boxes can be exhausting!
  9. Does anyone know about nursing opportunities in India?
  10. kskirk1021 -Congrats! Question... has anyone here taken the HESI exam? If so do you think it's possible to study for it and get a good grade within a month?

I am hoping to attend nursing school in the near future. I happen to also be interested in those same areas in the hospital. I volunteer at a hospital (in NY) in the Emergency Department right now but im looking to get a position in L&D or the Mother/Baby Nursing Unit. They do have positions available there and from what I've heard from other volunteers, you do get to see quite a bit (which is what most of us want). What I can tell you from my experience is that what you are allowed to do as a volunteer is limited due to the hospitals needing to protect themselves from potential legal risks. In the ED some of things I can do is, give out food and drinks (if I check with their nurse first to see if it's ok), chat with patients and see if I could help in making them more comfortable, bring specimens to the lab/blood bank, bring patients to ultrasound/ct/xray, radiology etc (if they are in a wheelchair, volunteers have a no stretchers rule here), go to the pharmacy, clean and make beds, and bring in patients from the waiting area to a bed. Hope this helps!
  12. Ugh I didn't get in either
  13. Paco go to the corner now!
  14. At this point Im so sick of hearing different things that I just have to laugh. What will they tell us next?? Hang in there people!
  15. Yay Paco! I guess my chanting worked! I remember you saying you wanted to be back in NY, now you have a very good reason to be here. Enjoy your return, good luck!
