ok, it's never too early to start a thread about applying for 2011 ... ... which i am most definitely doing even though i am still waitlisted for 2010. i just won't be able to attend this year if i get in ...
but that's ok! i'll be done with all my prereqs and have time to write a better application (if in fact that is at all possible, you know?).
anyone else applying to stony brook for summer 2011?
i really hope we hear back this week.. i cant wait much longer! i have a complicated situation right now with schools, i wonder if anyones in the same boat as me::
i applied to 3 nursing programs, stonybrooks accelerated being my first choice hands down
ive only heard back from one so far, i was accepted and the program starts this month (its a 2 yr program, not accelerated)
i had to pay not only the deposit but the entire tuition so i didnt lose my spot in the program
i was planning on attending classes for the first week or so and if i got into SB id drop out of the program and hopefully get my money back.. however as the days go on, the % of the tuition i get back is decreasing.. by monday i only get back 75%
soooo this is why im going crazy waiting to hear back from stony brook! oh and on top of that, i still have one pre-req to take for stony so im gonna have to be taking that at the same time as the 8.5 credit nursing class for the first few weeks.. this is driving me crazyy! i never knew applying to nursing school was going to be so stressful
**SIGH*** Yes, the timing of this affects us all! The semester starts at the end of Jan, and I would take different classes depending if I was accepted or denied....! Hearing back NOW would make this all so much easier!!
Congrats MisStaken314, I'm glad you got in somewhere. Either way, I'm sure the one or two years will go fast. If you look at it this way, if you started the two year program now, that is 6 months before SB would start classes, so the two year program for you would only be an additional 6 months longer than the accelerated. I wish I was in your shoes! I hope you take that as a comfort! :)

ok, in your case i can see why the wait would be excrutiating! wow, for your sake i really hope we get decisions soon! how are you managing to keep all this going on? it's like 5 pots boiling on the stove at the same time! are you gearing to start an associate's degree program? that is what i am assuming by the fact that you're taking 8.5 credits.

you too, omw ... i guess taking different classes depending on the decision makes it important to know! i like your logic about the 6 months in and it would be almost the same ... but that depends if misstaken is starting a bsn or an adn program, which means misstaken would have to complete the bsn later.

thank you! i am somewhat relieved that i got in to at least one of the schools i applied to.. and you're right about the timing, im anxious to start and it is 6 months sooner than SBs program starts.. however, Paco is right in that its an associates program so i would have to go back for my bachelors after the 2 years .. it is SO stressful not knowing where im going to be and at the same time starting a nursing program now with stonybrooks looming decision on my mind all the time! i feel like im cheating on the 2 yr program with SB LOL
hopefully for all of our sanity we hear decisions soon
good luck to everyone!

LMAO! That's the best thing I have heard all day ...
At this point, I would be happy to get into a school I can afford! I am awaiting word on 4 accelerated BSNs and 1 ADN program (I should say 3 BSNs, because I have already decided I cannot attend U Miami even if I get in). SBU is my #1 choice. But even if I have to go to an ADN I will do that, then after a few years I will go directly for MSN which IS possible with an ADN and a non-nursing bachelors. I am concerned however about not getting a job with an ADN, keep hearing about how BSNs are getting hiring priority, which is why I have applied to mostly BSNs. To think that in 3 1/2 months my life is destined to be completely different, it is kind of scary!
omgg word misStaken! lol i applied to the 2-yr too and i feel the same hahaha
Paco: why do you always type like you're not anxious at all? lol im soooooo freakin out right nowww!! the official transcript i hand delivered but i guess they just checked off the most recent college not the oldest one even tho they are the same school... (yea I put the same college twice on my application because of transferring and stuff a while back...)
Welllll, I'm off tmr so my plan is to call every single school I applied and ask if they have everything from me I applied to.... let me count.... a little more than Paco lol 6 schools, well 6 programs in 5 schools, personally i prefer BS program doesnt matter accelerated or 2 yr, i applied ASN as backup... AHHHHHHHH i wish the admission people can see all these so they know how we feel
Paco: why do you always type like you're not anxious at all? lol im soooooo freakin out right nowww!!
LOL! I went through this a year ago and I promised myself that I was not going to freak out again. It's a horrible feeling. There is nothing I can do to make the decision come faster, and freaking out is not going to help my sanity. I have enough work to keep me busy these days! It's all in God's hands, seriously.
Last year, I only applied to SBU, and putting my eggs in one basket was not wise. So my anxiety was based on the "this is it or nothing" ... the waitlist took too long (did not find out until July that the class was filled) and by May I had to let my employer know whether or not I was returning to my job for another year. So as of May 1st I was back working for another year and still waitlisted @ SBU with no backup plan. This year, I have options. Several schools in the pipeline and plans B and C in place, none of which include returning to my present job. This job has sucked the life out of me and I can't see myself returning to do it one more year. 5 years is enough.
Hang in there, we will know soon enough!
I can get a 100% tuition refund from a part-time 3yr. RN program (Suffolk CC)if I notify them by Jan 24th. I was planning on calling the SB nursing office tomorrow, with a follow up fax and/or email asking them if the decision had been made in my case. Its not the end of the world if i start this other program and then have to drop out for the accelerated program. In my case, it might EVEN be better to do the part-time 3 year route. Good luck to all of you! PT

Hey, I picked up a transfer credit equivalent sheet at an info session at SBU. Chem 131 from Nassau does count as a class they would accept. Hope that helps.
On that note...Hey everyone :)! I thought I was going to take Chem over this spring semester because I was so sure I got a C- when I took it a while back. I double checked just to be sure and it turns out I had a C+. It might not be the best grade but when I was done with that class I felt like I got an A! Needless to say im excited that I won't be taking that class and that I don't have to spend $1,000 I don't have right now. So we all know decisions for the 1 year program should be coming soon. I don't think it makes sense to try to send a transcript with my chem grade on it now. I also applied to the 2 year so I don't know if I should try and send it now or maybe I should just wait until I hear about the 1 year and go from there. Thoughts?
P.S. I've noticed there is alot of SOLAR checking and anxiousness going on in here
. Hang in there guys the wait is almost over!!!
