43 and starting pre-nursing in January !

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Just like that I decided to become a BSN RN at 43! I'm very excited about it. Would it be too much of a workload to study Spanish as my 2nd language while I do my prerequisite courses ? I'm going full time . Will Spanish on resumes be a turn on for employers? I appreciate your advice:) Stacey

Definitely! I am full bilingual and currently am an OB Scrub Tech. If I'm working and there's a Spanish speaking Mom, I always go in to make sure they are understanding everything and that they have what they need. I even help my co-workers next door in M/B with post partum patients. I am currently getting my general classes done so I can start my nursing classes hopefully next fall. It is an accelerated bilingual program but it helps that Spanish is my first language. Definitely go for it but make sure you're not taking more than you can handle so your GPA doesn't get affected. And by the way, I'm 41! Good luck!

im 48 and i am starting a new career, too!

i have a bs in business and i will be finished with the nursing pre reqs in december. then ill take teas v and wait for my nursing classes. there is presently a two semester wait for the rn classes but while i wait i can take some BSN classes that i will hopefully use towards a msn bridge.

im just anxious to be an RN and start working...probably will be 50 by then.

hey...what im lacking in youth, i more than make up in experience and wisdom!

best wishes to you!!

I am 30 and will be starting my pre reqs next semester. I'm super nervous I've been a stay at home mom for quite a while now, I went to school to be a surg tech when I was 18, but became a mommy instead, so I've never really gotten to use my education, now I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream, and I'm super excited!!!!

Good for you! I'm 39 and right in the middle of pre-reqs for an ABSN program starting summer 2013. I'd say go for it as long as it won't interfere with the pre-reqs that are required. It also depends on the area. Here in the Chicago area, bilingual would be a plus with a high hispanic population. Other areas, maybe not as much of a factor.

I was 39 when I started my nursing journey.

I was a LPN, by 40. I work at a LTC facility on a sub acute rehab floor. I'm 43 now and start a RN ADN in january.

Then BSN, and then NP.

Good luck.

Congratulations on taking your first step! I'm 42 and just returned to school after putting my aspirations on hold for the last 18 years. Don't let your age discourage you. You will be more mature than most of the "kids" in your classes. (Your profs will appreciate this!)

I think it's great you want to add a 2nd language....go for it!!! :D

Thank you for the encouraging words! Thank you! Wishing you the best of luck:)Stacey

Thank you! I am going for it ! I just think it would be a nice touch for my future Spanish patients! Good luck to you and I wish u the best! Stacey

I was trying to leave a comment for each reply but it's not working. It's so nice to hear from you strong professional women! I am even more excited by your lovely comments . Thanks again ( to you all )

My two cents I am 40 starting LPN in 10 days, yay, I was worrying about my age but after reading posts on here I know I we can do this. Woohoo 40s rock!!

I'm 46 and in school for my ADN RN. When I finish I'll only need three classes to get my BA in Business Administration. The two should go well together. It's never to late unless you think it is. Best of luck to you.
