sending this from my phone so i apologize in advance for my lack of punctuation... i have been following this thread and i am really glad to read that you.have decided to go for it. it is obvious that you are an intelligent and compassionate person from reading your posts. i have no doubt.that you will be a wonderful nurse. i am a mid life, career changing, pre-nursing student. i had a career and BS in business administration for many years before becoming a sahm/substitute teacher. like you, my interest in nursing/the medical field has always been there. i am the daughter of a retired RN and began perusing medical books at a very young age. life happens... very few of us know what we want to do at 18 and everything lines up perfectly. it really is true that you are never too old to learn or reinvent yourself. i also appreciate the comments of the experienced nurse and the time it took to fully explain her/his position. about a year ago i started a thread about starting nursing school in my 40s, and someone (i will assume this person was quite young) posted two words "too old.". he or she posted them a few times in the same thread, actually. well, let me tell you, that was the best motivator of all! nobody was going to tell me i'm too old to learn and to help people! again, i am delighted to read that there is going to be another intelligent, caring, mature, passionate nurse in our country's future. WTG!

Thanks for the link. I am in AP2 and will use your histology images to study for my lab mid term. As for the OP, I would go and speak to your professor about your grade and what you can do to improve it. You are certainly putting in a lot of study time so your 48 wasn't due to lack of effort. im 48 and i am starting a new career, too! i have a bs in business and i will be finished with the nursing pre reqs in december. then ill take teas v and wait for my nursing classes. there is presently a two semester wait for the rn classes but while i wait i can take some BSN classes that i will hopefully use towards a msn bridge. im just anxious to be an RN and start working...probably will be 50 by then. hey...what im lacking in youth, i more than make up in experience and wisdom! best wishes to you!!

I have two pre reqs left after this semester to be eligible for the second degree ABSN program that I hope to enter next Sept. I know I shldnt put all of my eggs in one basket but I dont want this to take years and years. However, it would be a lot less costly to do it the longer way. I just wish their wasnt a waiting list for the longer route... I also wish I was abt ten yrs younger. lol

i am going to school as a second bs student. i am taking two pre reqs and have two more to take in the spring that i did not have in my bs in business. i am hoping to get into an accelerated bsn program in september. if i do not get into that program, i will apply to a traditional bsn program which will take more time. i am 48 years old so i definitely feel the need to finish as quickly as possible.

Anyone out there? How is it going?

I start Ap2 along w Bioethics on 9/10/12. My biggest worry is that I took AP1 quite awhile ago. I am hoping.to.apply for ABSN which will begin 9/13. How is AP2 compared to AP1?

My change of career story goes like this... Like many, I was never sure of what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was always interested in singing and acting but never had the confidence to pursue the entertainment business. In addition, I was always encouraged to "use my brain" by my parents. I was interested in medicine and would spend quite a bit of time reading my mom's medical books (she was an RN). My mother did not want me to be a nurse because back in those days nurses were GREATLY underpaid with no assistance. It was pretty difficult back in the 60s & 70s. So, I worked and went to college which was a great thing because I have a BS in Business Administration that was completely paid for by the corporation I was employed by. I'm proud of the accomplishment but even as I took the courses, I wasn't thrilled with my major or with the corporate business career choice overall. I left work and raised our children while working as a substitute teacher. I love working with children and with people, in general. I have spent the last several years considering going back to school to be a nurse. It is only now that I am biting the bullet and taking the handful of pre-reqs that I don't have with my BS in Business so that I can apply to an ABSN program. I'm in my 40s so I don't want to take a longer route.

i am taking ap2 and bioethics. my hope is to be accepted into an absn to begin 9.13. i already have a bs in business and havent taken a class in many years. i start in two wks so ive been reading AP text to get a headstart. anyone else starting a new career?
