43 and starting pre-nursing in January !

Published

Just like that I decided to become a BSN RN at 43! I'm very excited about it. Would it be too much of a workload to study Spanish as my 2nd language while I do my prerequisite courses ? I'm going full time . Will Spanish on resumes be a turn on for employers? I appreciate your advice:) Stacey

I say go for it. I'm going to be 50 in December and am in my second quarter of nursing school (RN-ADN program.) Love it, despite the huge amounts of work :) I plan to continue to get my BSN once I pass the NCLEX and keep on going. I would love to take Spanish too but my school (one of the for-profits) doesn't offer it. :(

I think that is a wonderful idea.

I am 41 and taking pre nursing classes. One of my classes is Spanish. I choose to take it because my school works on a point system and I get points for knowing a foreign language. I live in California so I know I will use it:) Glad to know i am not alone in being a older student. Good luck to you.:)

Woow.I would like to congratulate and thank you all for the inspiration you have given me tonight.I've been doubting myself ever since I got rejected from Nursing school 7 yrs ago(cant believe it has been that long !) and here I am reading posts from you guys who are in your 30's &40's,ready to embark on your journey towards becoming a Nurse! You guys make me feel inspired!Good luck to you all !!!

I am 45, three years from retiring from the military and applying for the ADN program in the Spring. I think its an awesome idea! My concern is not my age but how I will do clinicals working full-time. I don't know how its going to work but I hope I can make it work. Good luck to all!

Just throwing my hat in the ring too. I am 42 and will be 43 when I start the actual program. All finished with the pre-reqs, just waiting to apply and hopefully get accepted for next fall.

Totally excited that there are others in their 40's and later that are embarking on this amazing journey!!!

Good luck to all.. and the wisdom and maturity we bring can only help us!

Congrats on taking this step to become a nurse. Being bilingual ALWAYS looks good.

Best of luck on this chapter!

WOW!!! I am 34 and starting my nursing journey as well! I plan to become a CNA in 2013 so that I can work in a hospital or LTC facility while I work on my nursing school prereqs. Nursing has been calling me for quite some time and I am finally ready to answer! I will be giving up great benefits and a pretty comfy salary, but the cubicle, office life is killing me slowly. Adding Spanish is an awesome idea! Good luck to you!

Specializes in STNA.

Awesome. Go for it! I'm a 36 year old stay at home mom who left my pre-nursing studies to become a fully time mommy. Now I'm going back to finish what I started. I'll be near 40 when I actually start my program. Retaking some prereqs now since they are so old. Good luck to you. I think the Spanish will be a great asset. I was wondering the same thing about French, since I've had a lot of French studies. :-)
