Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

I believe graduation is in May. So if we start in the Spring 2001 program in January, we should all graduate in May 2012. :yeah:

That's correct! my class will be graduating in may 2011 (first weekend in may to be exact)! we're all beyond excited!

This wait is hard. I have already had acceptance letters and emails from HBU and TWU but UT is my first choice. I hope I know soon! I really want to go to UT!

So did you turn in acceptance to TWU? I did, but of course am still waiting to here from UT. I'm just trying to decide which one I would choose if I got accepted to UT. I've always leaned toward UT, but now that TWU accepted me....it throws me off a bit.

kimmy088-Did anyone work while in the program or is it even possible to do? I have a chance to have my school paid for but, I have to keep a 20 hr week.

I didnt accept yet just trying to wait just in case I hear from UT before the 29th but maybe I should just accept now. I would choose UT over TWU because of the fact that I would finish 6 months earlier at UT than TWU and having small children I need to be done the soonest I possibly can. What about TWU makes you rethink UT? Just asking because that thought has crossed my mind as well.

There are some people in my class that worked part time during the first semester. It was somewhat doable since there was only one clinical and it did not start until the middle of the semester. Since we took more hours in the summer (17 hours), it was harder for them to continue to work even part time. Most of all of the people I know decided to quit their job. However, there are still a handful even this semester that continue to work. It's not a choice though for them though. They have families to take care of and need the income. Overall, I'd say keep the job for now, but let your boss know that circumstances may change later in the year. It really depends on how insistent you are on keeping the job.

I'm not sure if anyone in your class has called the admissions office about this (or they might have called student affairs), but I know that a few in my class did call in around this time last year to let them know that twu had already given their admissions offer. I don't know if that sped up the process (seeing that we got admissions emails/ut link changes by the 5th of november) or made any difference, but it's worth a shot.

Thanks Kimmy for your help.

just spoke with someone in the BSN admissions office and I was told that since I was accepted to TWU and since the deadline for TWU is OCt. 29th, to go ahead and accept their offer until I hear from UT. Man, I was hoping for a little more, like maybe an exact date of acceptance or denial for UT, but that is all she gave me. She said that is what she is telling others. I guess I am not the only one fishing for more information.

Maybe I shouldnt have given my name. Just thinking what if they take my name off of acceptance because they know I was accepted somewhere else!! I don't rationally think that will happen but all this time to ponder isnt helping me.

Well, like you, I have 3 children..5, 7 and 10. So having the summers off might make it easier....rather than spending 1200 a month on summer camps. But, I really would like to get it done earlier too, and if we graduate at the beginning of May, that makes it 7 months earlier. Plus, the preceptorship...one on one!

lol dont worry. we are all going nuts and not thinking rationally.

i wouldnt think they would do that. if you are qualified you are qualified.

we are all extremely scared. we are also going to find out within 1-2 weeks... they say by the 15th for sure but their track record says the first week of november.

i am going to live off of loans+my parents. so i can say i am more fortunate than others.

Also going to live with a friend of mine in a apartment in the med center...

this is the only school i applied to. cause i am missing maybe 1 class for another school. plus i want to go to UTH. I will apply to UTHSCSA next semester as a backup school if i dont get in this round but as a 2nd time applicant/interview i would assume it is guaranteed for me to get in. but it is always smart to have a backup plan and not get too cocky

Delgadido- why do you think that applying a second time guarantees you to get in?

There are people in my class that this was there 3rd try to get in...
