Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

I believe that they do take into account the differences such as where you took the course and if it were intro vs regular. There were people last Spring that applied with 4.0s that did not get in but people with lower GPAs from universities that did.

maybe they could have been a complete book worm who did not know how to do a good interview??

I have no idea...

we should create a support group for all of this... haha...

To all who have been accepted to nursing programs at other schools and have to confirm their acceptance before they find out about their admission to UT, what are y'all planning to do? Is anyone planning to start the bsn program you've been accepted to, finish the semester, and transfer to UT? Is that even possible? I have no idea about what to do ...

Hey guys...I am a first semester student at UT Houston and I saw a few of you worrying about if they will take into consideration where you took your courses. They do not take this into consideration, I took all of my science pre-reqs at HCC and I know many other people who got into the program took their courses at varying community colleges. I just wanted to let y'all know so you don't unnecessarily stress out!

That's good to hear! I also took all my science pre-reqs at HCC.

laetx- what is your schedule like for the first semester?

We have lab on Monday for 2 hours, everyone has a different time though, lecture from 8-noon on Tues. and before you start clinical, you have skills lab on Tues. from 1-3. We had Wednesdays off until we started clinical, you may have your clinical on either Wednesday, Friday or Saturday (if it's on Friday or Saturday, you will still have Wednesdays off). Then we have lecture on Thursday from 8-11 and 1-4. It's really not that bad of a schedule, it's just that you are constantly busy during your "off time".

Can you pick your clinical times or switch?

Hi everyone! I have also been watching this thread for a while and wanted to join in. I really hope we all find out soon! And I like the idea of a meet-up brunch/dinner after decisions are sent out to all get to know each other as future classmates. Here's hoping we get to do it soon!

You fill out a form that lets the professor know the day you prefer for clinicals, but you can't pick which hospital you want to be at. For clinicals there are 10 students assigned to that hospital that day, they broke it up 5 on one floor, 5 on the other and then midway through the semester, we will switch floors. You have a clinical instructor but they are not always on the floor with you. It depends on what hospital you get assigned to, but usually you will get paired with one nurse during your day. You won't have to worry about clinical for awhile if you get in, for us we just started 2 weeks ago. Hope this helps!
