I wanted to start a support thread for all of us that will be applying for the Spring 09 start. My hope is that we keep this thread alive through the process and keep each other encouraged! Nursing School is hard enough to get into!
Where are you applying?
What is your GPA and/or points for your school of choice?
When is your schools deadline?
When does the acceptance letters go out?
What is your plan A, B, C...?
Another Fall(ish) 09 hopeful
Where are you applying?
Treasure Valley Community College
What is your GPA and/or points for your school of choice?
Program goes off points/GPA... 120-130 applicants for 28 seats.
Pax - Previous CNA - one point/grade point credit hour for each pre-requisite - additional 10 possible for living in the Ontario, Oregon area.
My GPA right now is at a 3.86 with Anatomy 1&2 out of the way, part 3 & Micro coming in the fall. I got the CNA action and test for the PAX on Saturday.
Right now - if I can maintain and make the 90th percentile on the Pax - I'm a shoe in for my spring application. I've made some really incredible faculty contacts and tend to stand out a bit. I'm more than competitive GPA wise so long as I can maintain till the end of winter and have all my pre-reqs complete. By the end of fall I'll only need 3 classes and winter counts.
I took the super insane summer A&P offering. 1st class during the first 4 weeks, second during the second 4 weeks. Exam every thursday. It was BRUTAL. Pretty much guarantee's a failure rate double the norm. I pulled A's. So if I can mellow a bit and get the regular timeline down for 233 (A&P) and 234 (Micro) in the fall... I'm good. Winter will be a walk in the park with Psych, Soc, and English. Should be accepted for Phi Theta Kappa as well - that should help.
When is your schools deadline?
April 12th is the deadline.
When does the acceptance letters go out?
May 15th
What is your plan A, B, C...?
A - Get accepted, graduate top student or top two in the class. Get a fatty scholarship to finish my BSN at a nationally recognized university.
B - Get denied, move to a state where entrance requirements are FAR lower - get accepted, graduate top of class. Get fatty scholarship to finish BSN.
C - Freak out. Get put in a in-patient clinic somewhere to deal with depression. Learn to love life inside the padded cell.
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!
I am planning to apply for Spring of 09 and if I don't get in apply for Fall of 09.Where are you applying? Bristol Community College
What is your GPA and/or points for your school of choice? I have a bachelors degree and will be transferring alot of courses or as much as they can accept. My GPA is from college 10 years ago. It was 3.6.
When is your schools deadline? Jan. 15 for fall and not sure what the spring deadline is but I think mid April?
When does the acceptance letters go out? Sometime in June for Fall and November for Spring. Again not sure for Spring b/c the option of entering in spring is new at the college.
What is your plan A, B, C...? My plan B is apply to Bcc for the fall and to Ric, CCri,and URI. Plan C is reapply to Bcc and apply to Umass. I heard that Umass doesn't really like to accept transfers and that it would take me 3 to 4 years to complete. Not an option.
MCB... I was in your shoes last year at this time. Just a heads up, BCC is the only school in the MA/RI area that would accept my 10yr old credits. CCRI has a SUPERB nursing program, (and the good news is they have spring and summer admissions AND they threw out that ridiculous waiting list!) but they wouldn't accept a single of my "old" transfer credits. URI & RIC would take SOME, but their wait list was not in my plan. Don't forget about Salve's program. Not sure how competitive it is, but it is an option. Also St. Joe's (Providence) has a well respected program. Many of the people I took A&P with applied to and were admitted to the Brockton Hospital Nursing School. Remember, obstacles are there to see how badly you want something....
I applied at West Kentucky Community Technical School.
My GPA is 3.87 and our school deadline was July 1st. I found out I was accepted August 6th!!
Congrats to everyone that has been accepted up until now and good luck to those that are waiting!! Young, old, male, female....we are all in it together....won't it be great when we graduate together??
:clpty:
I turned in my application today to the college of southern nevada. I think we're supposed to get phone calls before the end of october and get told over the phone whether you are accepted or not. I have a GPA of around 3.86 and my school goes by the point system and I have about 30 points which I've been told by other students is a guaranteed seat. Here's hoping nothing goes wrong since it's the best nursing program in Vegas.
