Speaking of summer...

Who is going to be working this summer?

I considered camp and summer school, but I need to have some minor surgery this summer. Now I'm considering doing some agency work to have greater schedule flexibility. Or, I might just kick back and relax.

No way! That's one of the main reasons I took this (low-paying) job!

The schedule was definitely a selling factor! That's the main reason I looked for a job as a school nurse and luckily I ended up loving it more than I expected!

Yep - Same here. I only expected to be a school nurse until my kids graduated high school, but I am still here and will be here till I retire. I just can't give up all my time off - thanksgiving, XMas, Spring and summer including the random 3 or 4 day weekends.

I admit, the schedule lured me in. The pay however is a bummer.

Next year I might seriously look into camp nursing. I have an almost 11 yr old step daughter who would love going to a sleep away camp.

The pay is a real bummer. I am on the teacher scale now (after becoming certified in school nursing) which is still less than what I would make working in another specialty. It was really dismal before that. Sucks that nurses are paid so little in schools while all other professional disciplines are paid higher (psychologists, social workers, speech path, ect).

I'm certain your step daughter would love camp! My kids live for the 3.5 weeks they spend at camp every year. They talk about it everyday ❤️

I work year-round PRN at a SNF. They don't need me much, but they like me and find me shifts when I ask. I committed to working every Wednesday night over my summer break, but I think that's probably all I'll do ?

I have a lot of projects around the house I'd like to get done, so it's a tough call between picking up more shifts and making it easier to pay for projects, or not working and having the time to actually do or manage the projects!

I will be volunteering for a week at a Girl Scout camp, and beside that, I will be working on my side gig (vinyl decals and shirts), hanging with my kids, and getting my son ready to go off to college.

Nope nope and nope. If I wanted to work during the summer, I'd go back to my outpatient hospital job ?

And I'm the opposite- I only took this job so I could maintain my crazy, messy, dirty, wild, buggy camp lifestyle!

I'm just going to spend time with my kids. The best part about school nursing.

Same here! I’m starting to realize how nice it will be to have the time to host all my kids and their family’s for the holidays and have plenty of time to get ready.

Same! I do not work in the summer except for babysitting grandkids (for free) as needed which I love doing. That’s one of the perks I take full advantage of! My kids always loved me being home with them and we always found lots of fun stuff to do.

I am not working this coming Summer, but I am leaving my FT school nurse position in June, and unless an amazing school nurse position with better hours than I have now falls into my lap in the Fall, I will spend the year subbing in local school districts. So, I will likely be looking to work at camp Summer 2020.
