So who do nurses marry or have as civil partners???

Published

This post is meant as a bit of light relief and certainly not meant to be taken too seriouly. Last night one of the nurses in my department said they had read an article saying that despite the growth of the internet the most likely place that people meet partners is at work so we had a quick pole to see if this was the case. The results are as follows:

1) Police Officers - the run away winners with 8 nurses in our department in a relationshipwith a police officer, must be the uniforms!!.

2) Other nurses - came in at number 2 with an equal mix of people having met at nursing school or once qualified.

3) Paramedics - all had met through work

4) Radiographer - again another meet through work

5) Doctor - only came in at way down the list, clearly we have not been reading enough Mills and Boons!!! It's funny when I started training in the olden days the first thing my 90year old Grandma said was "how lovely you'll be able to meet a handsome Doctor" never had the heart to tell her the reality!!:)

It's fair to say we also had nurses who met their partners away from work and are in relationships with a teacher, farmer, car salesman and vet!!!!

As I said it's just for fun but now it's over to you - who do nurses marry or have as civil partners?????:redbeathe

Specializes in LTC/Behavioral/ Hospice.

I'm married to a pastor. 18 1/2 years and still going strong. :)

Specializes in Specializes in L/D, newborn, GYN, LTC, Dialysis.

I was already married to my amazing military spouse when I graduated nursing school. Nursing and military go well together as I was able to work around his busy schedule. NO plans to trade in my spouse, now, even though he is recently retired from the Air Force; we have nearly 23 years together as partners, and it's been great. No doctor would EVER be worth 1/10 of this wonderful man....and I can vent about work and he loves my stories. Since his work is so different, he is not tired of hearing about it. Lucky me!

DH & i hate valentines too. stupid hallmark holiday & i hate stuffed animals!! we make it a point to stay home away from the restaurants and watch an action flick..

Specializes in Gerontology, nursing education.
I have no wife. Never want one. I am a single, cynical, prick and I enjoy being a single, cynical, prick. To Valentine's Day I say: BAH HUMBUG!

Thought I would add some "opposing viewpoints" to this thread. :D

You do realize that Valentine's curmudgeons fall the hardest when they do fall...

Ooh...cool topic. I'm not a nurse yet, nor am I involved or married, but I have some nurses in my family so I can add to the stats!

One nurse was married to a cop.

One is married to a mechanic.

One to a deliveryman.

One to a boat painter.

Of my friends/co-workers who are nurses:

One to a city worker.

One to an ex-prison guard.

One to a roofer/handyman

One to a painter/trucker.

( and all their spouses are bikers!)

and one to ''the sexiest man alive"...she never said what he did for a living!

Of the CNA's I know:

One married a fork lift operator

Two married farmers

One married a dogcatcher

pretty good variety.

What a fun thread this is - thanks for starting it and to everyone for sharing!

I met my husband 22 years ago this month when we were both aides in a LTC. We got married 9 months later. He left the medical field and now works in facilities. But he knows enough to understand my stories.

Some of my co-workers couples:

two are married to cops

a couple are married to firefighters

there are a couple of mechanics

a couple of farmer/paramedics

and an architect

Specializes in 5yrs LPN , 2 yrs CNA.

I met my husband in the 8th grade. we started dating in the 9th grade. then we went to nursing school together. we are now both lpns!! we've been married since 2004!!!

I'm just waiting to take my VN boards. That counts, right? ;)

I'm married to a fork lift operator, though he really wants to pursue either law enforcement or become a paramedic. We met when we were 16 and he became my best friend. We started dating at 18 and will have been married for two years on March 5. He's currently helping me get my way through school (working on finishing those RN pre-reqs so I can bridge!) and then we plan on switching. I love him more than words can describe.

Specializes in Psychiatric.

i was married way before nursing school...my husband is a flight mechanic for the us coast guard! :D

Specializes in Psych nursing.

I met my husband online after graduating from LPN school. I have been an RN for two years. He is a Vice President of a college directly over the nursing program. It was difficult being the Vice Presidents wife. I changed colleges to be incognito. I didn't want anyone thinking I was getting special treatment.

I met my husband at work--we were both cashiers at Meijer, both taking a break from college. 12 years later (10 together, 7 married) he's a software engineer and I'm an LPN. Neither of us had concrete career plans when we started dating.

Specializes in hospice, ortho,clinical review.

My husband does restoration work including carpentry/electrical/tiling/plumbing... I love that he's good with his hands, and even though that's his line of work,he keeps them nice looking and soft. :D

We met online through our religious affiliation. He flew the 550 miles to meet me, we knew instantaneously, and 6 mos later we were married. He relocated to my state. He's the reason that instead of working full time and going to nursing school part time, I was able to quit my job and go to a different school that only offered a full time schedule.

He's my rock, my best friend and my lover. He's better than anyone I could have even dreamed of. We celebrated 4 years of marriage last month. :redbeathe
