My original post was moved to a premium page and as I am not a premium member as of yet, I was unable to respond to the original post. I did however include it on the bottom of this reply.
God bless you all for your words of encouragement and prayers. Please continue to pray for her!
Hi all,
just wanted to say thanks to all who responded to my thread about my very sick puppy Frex. I was not able to get through one post without crying. It is good to know there are so many aminal lovers out there.
Frex made it through the surgery this morning and is alert and walking around a bit. The Vet, Dr. Smith said her uterus should normally be about the size of a pencil or little finger and hers was as big as his wrist! He also said her ovaries, which normally should be the size of a lima bean, were as big as a large plum. She was so full of infection.
It is still touch and go for now, because of the sespis, but she made it through the surgery and that is a biggie!!!!

I know this is probably not the place to discuss dogs, but I just got home from the Vets. Seems my dog, ( part Border collie, part beagle) is septic. The Vet kept her overnight for IV antibiotics, and will do surgery in the AM. I knew she had not been feeling good for a couple of weeks, but never assumed her illness had progressed this far.
She has been drinking a lot of water for a while now, and urinating a lot. Even in areas she never goes, such as my living room. That should have alerted me to something. I thought she was just jealous of the cats or something. I would scold her and she would hang her head, and everything would be okay for a few days.
Yesterday, she was really tired and kinda lethargic. She was running a little temp, (her nose was warm). I gave her 1 tylenol and she perked up a bit. This morning she could barely walk. So I took her to the Vet. He said he temp was really high and she was passing a foul smelling drainage, which I thought was urine. Come to find out she has an infection in her uterus and is septic.
The Vet said it was touch and go for now and she might not pull through. She has never been spayed and never been pregnant. She is a house dog and a great watch dog. She alerted me to an intruder breaking into my home a couple of years ago.
I told my daughter I don't know how I could have missed this. I mean after all, I am a nurse. I am feeling so bad right now, and so sad. My daughter will be a basket case if something happens to her.
If any of you think like I do, that God takes care of animals too, please say a prayer for her. Her name is Freckles (Frex, for short). She is 10 1/2 yrs old and very special to me.
Sorry about the length............................Nursepenny

Nursepenny,
I'm so glad to hear that Frex is better. It's always just so horrible for me to hear about sick pets!
Will you let us know how she does?

I read the original post and have been praying for and thinking about Frex, even tho I couldn't respond to the post.
I sure hops your dog will get better.
I know how you feel. Dogs can become such a part of us and be family.
I have a dog, Sparkie. He has epilepsy. Right now the seizures are fairly well controlled with phenobarbital. I just pray that they don't get worse and he goes into status. It is so hard to watch him have a seizure and know I really can't do anything for him but just sit with him until it's over.

I am sorry to hear about your dog. Yes, God does love animals and yes, animals do go to heaven.
P.S. Tylenol is toxic to dogs but you can give a dog an Aspirin. Mine weighs 15 pounds and get a 81 mg ASA, I'm sure a large dog could handle 325 mg.

I read your original post yesterday, but I couldn't bring myself to respond - couldn't see through the tears. I am glad to hear Frex has made it over her first hurdle. I know I and other readers are praying for her.
Please keep us updated!
By the way why did your post get moved to premium?

We used to give our dog tylenol, but since then i've been told that they should only get aspirin. Please check with your vet.
Hope your dog continues to do well.
Just got back from the Vet's office. My baby didn't make it. The infection was too bad. He said she she was a fighter and she fought up to the end. Her poor little tired heart just couldn't take any more.
Oh God. I hurt so bad!!!!!
Thanks for all your kindness, thoughts, and prayers. I know she will be waiting for me.
Oh, I am so sorry....... I know there are no words that can take away your pain.......just have faith that your dear friend is waiting for you across the Rainbow Bridge, and that one day you will be reunited with her, never to be separated again.
My condolences to you for your loss. :icon_hug:
