My original post was moved to a premium page and as I am not a premium member as of yet, I was unable to respond to the original post. I did however include it on the bottom of this reply.

God bless you all for your words of encouragement and prayers. Please continue to pray for her!

Hi all,

just wanted to say thanks to all who responded to my thread about my very sick puppy Frex. I was not able to get through one post without crying. It is good to know there are so many aminal lovers out there.

Frex made it through the surgery this morning and is alert and walking around a bit. The Vet, Dr. Smith said her uterus should normally be about the size of a pencil or little finger and hers was as big as his wrist! He also said her ovaries, which normally should be the size of a lima bean, were as big as a large plum. She was so full of infection.

It is still touch and go for now, because of the sespis, but she made it through the surgery and that is a biggie!!!!

I know this is probably not the place to discuss dogs, but I just got home from the Vets. Seems my dog, ( part Border collie, part beagle) is septic. The Vet kept her overnight for IV antibiotics, and will do surgery in the AM. I knew she had not been feeling good for a couple of weeks, but never assumed her illness had progressed this far.

She has been drinking a lot of water for a while now, and urinating a lot. Even in areas she never goes, such as my living room. That should have alerted me to something. I thought she was just jealous of the cats or something. I would scold her and she would hang her head, and everything would be okay for a few days.

Yesterday, she was really tired and kinda lethargic. She was running a little temp, (her nose was warm). I gave her 1 tylenol and she perked up a bit. This morning she could barely walk. So I took her to the Vet. He said he temp was really high and she was passing a foul smelling drainage, which I thought was urine. Come to find out she has an infection in her uterus and is septic.

The Vet said it was touch and go for now and she might not pull through. She has never been spayed and never been pregnant. She is a house dog and a great watch dog. She alerted me to an intruder breaking into my home a couple of years ago.

I told my daughter I don't know how I could have missed this. I mean after all, I am a nurse. I am feeling so bad right now, and so sad. My daughter will be a basket case if something happens to her.

If any of you think like I do, that God takes care of animals too, please say a prayer for her. Her name is Freckles (Frex, for short). She is 10 1/2 yrs old and very special to me.

Sorry about the length............................Nursepenny

... but a truth I have learned over the years is that a new pet can ease the pain of losing an old pet. Not to say cure, but certainly comfort...

.

Nursemike, I agree with you, very strongly.

One of the worst times of my life was this summer, caring for my 20 y/o cat w/ chronic renal failure. (Not the caring part, knowing that she was dying was the hard part. ) We had been together longer than anyone else in my family, and I knew the end was near. I finally put her down, she just wouldn't let go and I didn't want her suffering. Also, lost our 17 yr old cat 6 mo earlier (br. tumor.)

The next week my son and I rec'd 2 cats from a rescue organization... one kitten, one 1 yr old. My grief was still strong but the 2 new family members have helped all of us move forward.
