I'm actually broadly sympathetic to the protesters. When you have 22 million Americans unemployed, massive lines at food banks, and even more projected layoffs, even a Second Great Depression, people are going to have had it. Even nurses and other hospital workers cannot get paid if the economy tanks and there's no money cycling through the U.S. system.

I think the quarantines have gone on way too long. We should have gone the Sweden herd immunity model in the first place. If people are still that scared of this Coronavirus they ought to quarantine themselves. The rest of the country shouldn't have to keep catering to the susceptible minority much longer. I'm grateful that I live in Texas and my governor seems committed to reopening our state in early May, whether hell or high water.

As opposed to communists? North Korea doesn't have it because no one goes there. China's leaders live in luxury while its people starve.

I think you're confusing capitalism with greed, there is a difference.

No, I didn't confuse anything. Greed is simply a human failing...it can abuse any economic system. In the USA it is capitalists insisting that the workers return to work regardless of risk.

$962 a week in unemployment is flat-out ludicrous. People are practically going to demand to be fired to sit around and enjoy that kind of money to not work.

And what about those of us who are not on unemployment? We get nothing. Meanwhile the dems want to add spending to the next bill for things that are completely unrelated.

I'm a straight-ticket Democrat and voted Bernie in the primaries, but this Coronavirus crisis is creating some strange bedfellows, as they say. I'm suspecting some people are enjoying living off of their weekly unemployment and simply don't want to go to work. They are milking this crisis for every penny they can get. And I suspect these same people will be the first to skimp on paying rent or mortgages citing the same Coronavirus crisis as an excuse.

I was under the impression that it is the WORKERS who are trying to get back to work.

For those who want to go back to work, there are probably urgent openings at your local nursing homes or long term care facilities. Show us you are serious and go help out there. How about it, OP?

Deep and sincere gratitude to those who have been working the front lines at nursing homes and LTCFs. Your job is one of the hardest and most undervalued in America. Lots of love to you.

I already have a job. And I've been working without any government freebies (excepting the $1200 stimulus we all got). We have to reopen America. Corona or no Corona, it's time to move on.

Sweden. A country with socialized medicine. Think about that for a while. Not one person in Sweden needed to worry about the medical bill if they were to become hospitalized for even a day (we know most hospitalizations with this are weeks).

That's only one reason it would be foolish to compare our response to that of Sweden.

Secondly, we do not yet know if prior infection creates any lasting immunity to this virus. Until there is evidence of lasting immunity, going along with a "infect everyone" approach could be catastrophic.

I find your Darwinian attitude towards the general public to be selfish and unbecoming someone who makes their living taking care of the sick. I pray you're never my nurse.

You can cut the sanctimonious attitude. There's nothing selfless or just about having 40-50% unemployment, daily breadlines, mass evictions and eventual starvation and widespread homelessness. America shouldn't just collapse because of Coronavirus.

Someone always has to go there. ?

Thank you @Sour Lemon! The most obnoxious nurses are the ones who assume you're Nurse Ratched if you don't (conveniently) agree with their own viewpoints. Oh, the humanity!

What was Sweden's response? I'll tell you......NOTHING. Touting their socialized system as the reason is just a huge miss.

And try to steer clear of personal insults. You know..forum rules.
