Hi everyone! I was originally a nursing major back in college but because of the long waiting list back then (1998) I decided to move into social work. I guess all this time I still yearn of becoming a nurse. I was wondering if I have to retake all my prerequisite again since its been 11-12 yrs. I got A on all my prerequiste class (micro, anatomy and physiology). I live in Florida. Thanks

check with your schools you want to apply to. A few of mine have requirements that certain prereqs have to be taken within the past 5 years from the date you applied to the program.

it depends on the school. my pre-reqs were about 10-12 years old but my school accepted them. there is no expiration date as far as transfer credits at my school.

Definitely check with your school. I know for mine, they accepted my 10 year old NON BIOLOGY classes, but any Bio classes that were older than 5 years I have to retake.

Mine are 12 years old as well. I need to retake the biology classes though. It's so dae ja vu . Back when I took the prereqs there were so many nurses that couldn't find a job and the waiting list were so long. I still think it got a little better.

If you're really dead set on not retaking any, you should just apply to programs that don't have time limits on the courses. Most of my schools are requiring those major prereqs (which micro and A&P are) be within 5-7 years old. Everything else like psych and English are acceptable as older credits.

I agree with those that suggest you check with your school. Some of my classes were 16 years old but were accepted. However, I didn't have any science courses that long ago, so perhaps those would need to be retaken.

I agree- check with the school. Might I also suggest that if you don't have to retake the sciences that you pick up a textbook or some sort of reference to refresh your memory. Given the opportunity, I'd retake A&P for sure even if I did not have to.

I retook A&P 1 and 2 this summer, originally took it 20 years ago. Not only did I have to do it for my prospective programs, I thought it was an excellent refresher.

I agree - check with your school. All the schools I've looked into require the bio classes to be within 5-7 years. Everything else doesn't matter.

Depends on the school. Some schools will take general ed/elective credits with no time limit IF you have a degree/have graduated previously, but if no prior degree then the credits have to be within 10 yrs. Also, most schools will require the sciences to be within 5-10 yrs or so whether you have a degree or not.

Nope. I'd just get a tutor to refresh my memory. No way I'd retake all those prequisites again unless I truly, truly had to.
