Ivy Tech Fall 2011 Waiting on THE letter
The hospitals that have SNE programs have specific times during the year that they accept applications. You just have to look on the websites to find out when. If you know someone on a unit that can talk to the manager to get your app pulled, that's a great help. . .

Ivy Tech Fall 2011 Waiting on THE letter
Exactly what Carlosnindy said. What they don't tell you in school (or, at least they didn't tell us at Lawrence campus) is that the best time to get a SNE job is after first semester or at the very least, during second semester. Don't wait any longer than that because the window of opportunity closes and then the hospitals don't want you for SNE anymore because you get too close to graduation actually for them to spend the time training you as a SNE. The job market now is markedly different now than it was just a couple of years ago. One of my neighbors graduated from Ivy Tech Indy in Dec '08 and was one of the few in her class who did NOT have a SNE position during school, yet she had no trouble at all getting a job as soon as she graduated. Now, the majority of our class were not able to find SNE positions because those are very limited and you have to have a connection to get one of those, and only those with paid SNE experience are able to even get interviews for jobs before graduation. The rest of us have no choice but to wait until after we get licensed to even be able to apply at most hospitals. So, try your darndest to get a SNE job during school and don't wait too long to do it. Good luck to all of you!

What size scrub pants do you wear and what size jeans?
I wear size 16 jeans and my Landau unisex scrubs for school are L. They are roomy but the waist is drawstring so I just cinch it tight. They were way long on me though, I am 5'7" and I still had to shorten them. But, I had bought Landau Women's scrub pants, also size L which fit in the hips/butt fine but they were a tad too short!

Ivy Tech Spring '10 Nursing Program Students
did you guys read about the new way they are going to start doing admissions points? Interesting. Not for the people applying for Spring 2011, but for anything after that. No more region points; points for the APHYs will be weighted heavier than the psych and Engl points; and there is a new TEAS and they will not use the adjusted individual total score but will use the subcategory scores to add in to the points total. Plus people have to get a level rating of proficient, advanced, or exemplary on the new TEAS to even be eligible to apply. I wonder when they are going to announce who the new Dean is. Supposedly we were going to get an email today or very soon.

Ivy Tech Fall 2011
Hi there, I just am reading. I'm in the ASN program at Lawrence right now. I just was reading all the new requirements for you guys, math, new TEAS, and a different way of doing the points for admission. They are going to weight the APHYs heavier than the Psych and English, no region pts anymore, and are using the individual pts for the different TEAS sections rather that the total individual adjusted score. Oh and you have to get a level of proficient, advanced, or exemplary on the new TEAS to even be able to apply. Good luck to all of you as you complete pre-reqs and work your way thru all the changes!!

Ivy Tech 'Fall 2010' Applicants
Taranator, besides what you listed, you will have to take healthcare provider lever CPR endorsed by the American Heart Association. You need proof of (2) MMR's in your lifetime or a positive titer; (2) varicella or positive titer; and the 3-shot Hep b series and the 2-step TB. We did not have to have any documentation for tetorifice. For MMR and varicella they say you can have your physician sign that they had 'documented' proof of prior infection, but I know people who had their dr. sign for that and then they were told they had to get a titer done anyway. It might just depend on your campus as to how picky they are. I went ahead and got a second MMR (had had the first as a baby) and for varicella I got the titer done which was positive for me (had the pox when I was 5). Some county health depts will do the shots for reduced cost but some won't, you just have to check around. My county does not do shots for adults. I ended up just going to my dr. for all of it since my insurance pays for that stuff.

If your campus is like others, you'll get a health form to take to your dr. They just have to sign that you are physically capable of performing all necessary activities in the program. There are also places to sign/date when you got shots for MMR (2), HepB series (3), varicella, and TB 2-step test. You can provide proof of immunity for MMR and varicella I believe. Not sure but I think if you had a TB within the last 6 mos it might be good, but I can't remember. I got a titer for varicella and then submitted the lab results with my other paperwork. You will also have to take American Heart Association Healthcare Provider level CPR and submit a copy of front and back of the card. Let's see, what else. . . oh yeah a background check and drug screen. You should get info about that at your orientation if it didn't come in your acceptance letter envelope. At Indy we didn't get all that stuff till orientation but a friend of mine at Ft Wayne got all that info with her acceptance letter and had to have most of it done by the time they had orientation, so it depends on your campus.

Congrats Tara! So what did the first sentence say? I think mine from Lawrence last year did start off with Congratulations. . .

Wow that is one high cutoff for ASN at Lawrence. I know more people apply for Fall, but sheesh! I think the cutoff for this past Spring was probably more about 205-ish but I do not know the exact numbers for sure, but it definitely was not as high as 211. Wow.

Just wanted to say good luck to all of you waiting for letters. I remember the feeling all too well. And Congrats to those who received letters already from those campuses that managed to get letters out very promptly! Re: med terminology. I took that class a few semesters ago and found it very helpful. Just learning all the prefixes and suffixes will give you an easier time in Advanced physio and in med surg.
