Should I keep my A&P textbooks for nursing school?

Published

hi nurses and current nursing students!

would you recommend that i keep my anatomy and physiology book for future reference ? i currently use elaine marieb's human anatomy and physiology, 8th edition.

thanks in advance for your advice.

YES !!! Im only 7 weeks into NS and I have had to pick it up 3-4 times so far. Im glad I still have it.

Funny thing is I have the same book as you. I used to think it was heavy and complained carrying it to class.

I put it on the shelf at home last Spring when A&P was over, havent looked at it till 2 weeks ago, when I picked it up off the shelf it felt like a feather compared to some of my nursing books :chuckle:chuckle:chuckle

I have a different book, but I've used my physiology book one or two time since starting school (I'm in my first semester). It's nice to have another resource if your patho/whatever book isn't making sense.

I have the same book! Yes, I'll be keeping it....I'm sure we'll use it in the future.

Yes- keep it. You never know when you are going to need a quick brush up on something, plus, you might be able to use it as a source for rationales when you start writing care plans...

Specializes in Telemetry.

Yes, you should keep it. In order to survive med/surgl-lll you have to know your anatomy and physiology well.

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

I kept mine because some one on here suggested it; but honestly, I don't think I looked at my anatomy or physio book once the entire time I was in nursing school. It was nice knowing they were there if I needed them, but you really should know all that stuff pretty well once you start nursing school. I would keep them though, you will appreciate having them available. Its like the taking an umbrella so it does not rain theory...

Specializes in Emergency/Cath Lab.

I have mine just because I have had it since HS. I let more people borrow it then I actually use it.

Specializes in Abdominal Transplant.

Lucky me. My teacher wrote hers for A&P 1 and 2. Cost a total of $15 for both classes books. :yeah:

Specializes in Emergency Department.

I have the OP's A&P book too... cost an arm and a leg so it is going to my grave with me :)

GOOGLE plus YOUTUBE is all you need and all that fits in a 8 oz cellphone! i google what we are talking about during lectures and get great animations and illustrations... dont have to study much for tests because I actually understand how it all works, not just memorizing for a test!

I kept all of my science books. Believe it or not, I've looked stuff up in math and chemistry books as well as the others!
