Hi all just wanted to know what colour shoes and uniforms you guys wear.Am asking because i see some post about white shoes. Our male nurses wear a white shirt, black pants and black shoes thanks.
Last semester, I wore all-white Nikes (with a light blue "swoosh"), navy pants and a white shirt. I *really* hope this semester's clinical instructor allows me to wear my Nikes again... they are so well-made if you need a lot of arch support.
I hate the white nursing clothes, though... For some reason, they advise against bleaching them.
our hospital just had a big reinforcement of the uniform policy as it was an issue with patients during accreditation. They do associate the uniform with being a nurse. Some of the girls are wearing yoga pants that flash thong when they bend over and t-shirts that ride up and flash a naval ring . Nice for the bars but not for the patients and family who are trying to feel safe in your care. The crocs were outlawed too but that was a health and safety issue , not a fashion issue. It is the employers right to have a uniform policy and you don't have to like it but you technically agreed to it upon hire and likely did read it over in a second when you oriented .
health and safety issue
Crocs are coming out with a new shoe design for nurses with no side or top vents: http://shop.crocs.com/pc-419-4-specialist.aspx?reqid=419&reqProdTypeId=451p&subsectionname=footwear§ion=products
We wear navy blue landau scrub pants with a polo shirts. Shirts either blue or white, which we don't have to tuck in (I was surprised). Our school initials are embroidered on the front with "College of Nursing". We have to wear completely white shoes, no markings and as little mesh as possible. Oh, and our name tag.
We also have labcoats embroidered with our name, our school, and college of nursing which we can wear without a name tag. No patches on the sleave.
All white shoes (hard to find for men) white pants, a white polo and a long dark blue (I call it birth control blue) vest that must be buttoned at all times. Very, very tacky! Our badge says "Advanced Nursing Student"
I think our director at school is trying to "one-up" all the other schools by making us stand out during clinicals.
In nursing school we wore all white from head to toe. The shirt was this this terrible tunic with buttons going down the center. We begged and pleaded to be switched to a polo shirt but it just didnt fly. We had to wear all white shoes as well. For psych we wore business casual. At the state hospital we could wear jeans...which was scary when you were walking down a hallway and had no idea if the person walking towards you was a pt or a staff member!!!
At the hospital where I work the uniform requirements are quite strict. Nurses must wear royal blue or white. Techs wear red, medics wear black, radiology wears black, RTs wear caribbean green, MDs navy blue.
We are allowed to wear crocs, just no holes on top. I couldnt live without crocs!

I use New Balance athletic shoes which are pretty much all white. I think they're leather or a reasonable facimile thereof. They have a light gray N on each side and have some tiny ventilation holes which might be a problem with some instructors. I like them a lot. Not sure what Model number they are. There's a MW575WT on the inside of the tongue and "new balance AL-1 HEALTH WALK" on the inside of the shoe.
