Sex ed OMG

Published

Today I started my growth and development classes (AKA sex ed) it was going great then at the end of the class I asked if there was any questions, I got a ear full!!

I can not believe how much more these kids know about some sex acts then me, I am only in my 20s but I have never heard of some of the thing, is it me or is it the kids now a days?

Any scary stories about teaching sex ed?

Oh, I can always bump up this thread. Got asked the other day in my question box if you can use plastic wrap as a condom. I actually happened to have some plastic wrap in my office. Stretched some out, called up a volunteer, had them poke through it, then try to get to stick put on a wet surface. Point made.

I worked in Women's Wellness before this and you should have seen some of the things we "found" being used as condoms. Plastic wrap and rubberband, tinfoil, baggies, a leather glove...

As mentioned before, I've been here on AN a long time. I went looking for a list of questions I posted here on one of these sex ed threads in the past. I didn't find it (yet) but I did find another thread from our school nurse forum that I thought I'd link.

Interesting thread, Spidey's Mom. It is true that facts can mean nothing without talking about the social and emotional skills attached to them. A good teacher has to be objective, keeping personal views out of the classroom. Just like any good professional ;).

It is a hot topic, probably always will be. Kids have questions. Some the same, some kind of the same, just phased differently.

If you find that list, I'd love to see it!

The day that STDs were taught to my middle schoolers by another nurse, I was inundated with requests for bandaid for scabs, scratches, and the like. I seriously am considering asking to take over the lesson...

Bumping up this thread to state that if I hear "Well, on Sex Sent Me to the ER..." from one of my 10th graders...

Kids, if it sent someone to the ER, maybe, just maybe, it is something you shouldn't be doing at home.

Or in a tree...

Or in a tree...

Or in a box. Or with a fox. Or on a train. Or in the rain.

Dr. Suess haunts my dreams

Or on a roof, or in the bathroom, or on top of a fire truck...

What happened to cars? Do kids still "do it" in cars?

Cars, bathrooms, their own bedrooms, their parents' bedroom, on the front lawn under a tree at midnight as the neighbor who works second shift is walking the dog....

Wanna know how I learned about that last one?
