The young lady with the can of Vienna Sausages and saltines! Some of the "food" the kids bring in kills me...

Those BBQ'd Rib-E-Que things are the armpit of school lunches for me. Ewwwwwe...and ALL the cooks in my schools know and bless their hearts. They try to not put those things on the menu when I am scheduled in their buildings.

Going in a different direction, it turns my stomach when coworkers heat their salmon/pickled whatever and it's not yet noon. Also the boiled eggs in a morning meeting/tuna in huddle etc...it's all so healthy but it doesn't mix with our already cramped meeting room and no windows.

Nothing better than walking into the staff room to heat up your food and all you can smell is microwaved fish. :wtf:

For the ones with difficulty swallowing who needed pureed food they'd just throw exactly what was for lunch for everyone else in a blender and then in a bowl. Back in the Dinosaur Days, this is how they served 'therapeutic diets' for hospitalized pts with NGT/Gtubes. Only it was the 24 hour total day's worth of food all blenderized. We would just add water to thin it out for administration.

To Jersey - Back in the day before current bariatric surgery, pts would have their mouths wired shut except for a small opening for a straw. Had a not-too-compliant acquaintance who would 'cheat' by blenderizing a whole pizza and drink it. Her diet effort failed.

As much as I love pizza I could never blenderize it and drink it. GROSS! I had a friend who would eat the rectangle shaped pizza in the cafeteria at school and dip it in ketchup or applesauce. Eventually she dipped it in ranch dressing. She would dip a chocolate chip cookie in ketchup.

My favorite sandwich as a kid was buttered white bread with cold Franco American spaghetti for the filling. The thought of it now makes me want to hurl.

I grew up poor so processed meat products were a luxury items second only to home made deer bologna. My Grammy, who raised me, was from the depression era so she often got creative with my lunches. I didn't mind the occasional 'jam sandwich' which consisted of placing any thing in the fridge between two slices of bread and jamming them together. Mashed potatoes, pickles with cheese, fried green tomato with gravy sandwiches were all a tolerable staple. But sardines and saltines would quickly find their way to the garbage or become after school fishing bait.

I had a lengthy hospital stay for GI issues and made the progression through clears to full liquid to pureed. I was so looking forward to something i could almost chew after a month of liquids. UNTIL.....pureed pork something showed up on the tray, with a double portion. It was just a grayish lump of ewwww.... It was a late tray and i think dietary just chucked on whatever was around that met the order. :barf02:...I became a vegetarian for the next couple of years.....

My dad calls Vienna Sausages "vy-eeeniee weeniees."

But I have always believed my parents take some kind of sick pleasure in pronouncing everything incorrectly over and over again in my presence just to drive me to the brink of insanity. At the beach last week we had salmon and they were all, "we like to have saLmon at Outback. Didn't you once have a good saLmon recipe? Does your daughter like saLmon?" You don't emphasize the L in salmon, people!!

My mother always pronounced the L so it wasn't until I was in college till I learned I was pronouncing it wrong my entire life. It still slips sometimes and it drives my hubby crazy when it happens.
