Hello all. just reading different threads and wondering what does the starting salary look like for a grad nurse? i live the in Atlanta area so any ball park figure will do. thanks!
yes here in NY with a ASN in Nursing they start you off 69,000 maybe 70,000 base pay + 6,000-7,000 for nights. Thats as far as i know.... How much do you guyz make in CA? What part of CA? whats the cost of living, rent, etc?
Here is what new grad nurses make at UCDMC in Sacramento, they just got a raise so it is off by $3 and most work nights so a 4.30 is added on that for around $41 a hour.

Rent is anywhere from $725 to 1000 a month for a 2-3 bed 2 bath apartment. Mine is $725 fior a 2 bed, 2 bath in Carmicheal, the outskirts of Sacramento. Houses go anywere from $1000 to 2000 a month depending on what size and area you want. Housing market is crashing so much cheaper prices in the next 2 years if you are looking to buy.
Wow! All I can say is I wanna move. I'm in Wisconsin and our GN starting pay is $21.00 per hour base pay plus $ 0.80 extra for 2nd shift and $2.00 extra for nights. We don't even get time and a half or anything for holidays! Staffing ratio is 5-6 pts to 1 RN, 8-9 pts per CNA on days, 2nd shift gets 5-6 pts to 1 RN, 8-9 pts per CNA, and 3rd shift gets 7-8 pts per RN and CNA gets 11-12 pts. How is staffing elsewhere?

Pt ratio laws here are 4 to 1 but often I see nurses I work with with only 3 pts.
In Wisconsin at my hospital we get a sign on bonus $ 3000 new grads, but there is a catch. We cannot call in sick but 3 times in a year or less or we forfeit the bonus also, cannot be more than 3 minutes late during contract period or we do not get bonus. Bonus only given after contract term is complete. Experienced nurses get $ 5000 or $8000 depending on contract term. I am not taking the bonus option. I want option to move to another state and don't want the contract hassle. WOW! A 4-1 patient ratio sounds GREAT!!!! I wish every state had that law! More nurses would stick around and we would not have as high a burn out rate.
