Last night on my campus there was a robbery and abduction at gunpoint of two male students. They were forced into a car with no license plates and robbed. They were released and unharmed. Thing is as a female nursing student our classes would last until 8pm. They abduction took place at around 7pm. My campus is known to have had armed and unarmed intruders. I carry mace with me but I fear that wouldn't be enough. I'd like to get a taser but I'm afraid the program won't allow it. Plus, it costs about $400. Does anyone own a taser or agree with getting one for protection? Are there any nurses or students that know if it's even legal to have in nursing school? Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance. :)

Where in the world do you go to school?
I think you should ask the nursing program to have the police come speak to your class and give advice about what you can legally do and use to defend yourselves.
Be safe!
Also, always walk with your keys in hand. Go straight for the eye ball if in doubt!

Florida. I'm hoping tasers are allowed. Obviously even a buddy system wasn't enough for these two guys.

If you feel unsafe walking back to your dorm or car, then you should be able to call security and ask them to send an officier to escort you.

Yes, your school should offer this as a safety precaution. I would also walk in a group of nursing students (like 3 or 4 together), all with mace. Walk to one person's car and have that person drive the rest of you to your cars or wherever your going.

Good day:
I'm sorry to hear that the two men were harmed and hurt.
Where the police involved? If not, why not?
Is a concealed carry possible?
How is the school dealing with the safety issue?
When I checked out a local community college and asked about safety at night time, they did mention that if a student ever felt uncomfortable they could ask for an escort. They would not have to give any reason for the request; and they would receive an escort to their vehicle.
Is that an option at your school?
Thank you.

My guess (???) is that the taser would not be allowed to be on school property (certainly not in the school buildings). Also, you would most likely not be able to bring it into clinical sites. I know my hospital prohibits firearms (although I'm not sure how tasers are "classified") on their property at all, even if the person has a permit to carry.

I work at a hospital and we aren't allowed to have tasers on property along with a list of other things.
