hi i am 29, i've been employed as a LPN for 1yr now and worked LTC and now at an ENT office. My ? is how do you transition into becoming a RN once you complete EC with little to no clinical experience. can any one shed some light for me please.

Hi, I'm Jul and happy to see this entry into the forums. I am a new LPN, graduating this past Oct., and I also chose to go the Excelcior College route. It will make working full-time easier, as I don't have to go to classes, just study and test-out on my own. I am currently working in a skilled nursing facility, but looking forward to getting my RN so I can have more opportunites in other areas of nursing. So here's my question... an informal poll, if you will.... what areas of nursing are the rest of you interested in? Or have you even decided yet? I'm not sure, so I guess I'm interested in finding out what other nurses are finding attractive? Thanks in advance if you respond.... :o)

Hello Everyone.

Hello. My name is Dani, I have been an LPN for 18 years, oops actually 19 years. I am currently enrolled in an LPN to BSN program which I have attended for one year now. I only go one night a week which I love because I am a mom of a 4 year old which I think sometimes is a full-time job of its own. I wish everyone returning to school good-luck and if I can help anyone in any way please let me know. For JulieLPN, I took Statistics last semester and fortunately passed but thank you to our professor which was an RN and left us use our books for our final or I would not have passed. If I can help though let me know. Bye for now. Dani

Hi!

I've been an LPN for over 20 years. I'm waiting to take the clinicals for the Excelsior program (been waiting since October, haven't received a date yet!) I'm a little worried - I don't have much clinical experience at all and what I do have is mostly Psych nursing. (I went back to school a few years ago and got my bachelors in organizational management.) I have 3 kids, 19,17,and 10 years old, a dog, and a husband, not necessarily in that order!

Oh, and with the Excelsior program, the nursing concept exams really were not that difficult for me - I think my LPN program really prepared me as a nurse. (Go LPN's!!!!!)

Starting the last semester of by LVN to RN program. I am excited 3 & 1/2 months left. How wonderful.

Hello from Idaho. I've been a Licensed PN for 1 yr and have just begun my studies for LPN - RN through the College Network. I'm new to allnurses.com and find all these forums a little overwhelming. I picked this one to get my feet wet--think I made a good choice? I'm also an "old" student, I'll be 45 on Feb 1st. Hope to meet some fellow students so we can cheer each other on.

Great thread!! I am a new LPN, graduated in June '06, started working in LTC last month. I will be 50 in February and have a 14 year old son. I held off enrolling in Excelsior until I was sure that I would love being a nurse. I do and I have applied to Excelsior because of the flexibility of the program. I have a BS in another field and have completed all of the science pre-reqs at my local community college.

Currently applying to the LPN-BSN at University of Phoenix in CO. Received my LVN from CC in Oroville, CA in 5/05. Worked med/surg near by and now LTC in CO 16 hrs/wk. I have a family of 6 (my dh and kids ages 14, 10, 7 and 13 mos).

UOP has 5 week courses. Anyone familiar with their program?

Greetings, Salutations and a BIG HELLO to everyone !!!

I've been an LPN since 1979, but the pay was SO lousy back then, that I found myself periodically working in other fields to make ends meet. I started getting some gen ed credits through CLEP in 1994, hoping to get my RN, but something always got in the way of my finishing. I have made up my mind, NOTHING is going to stand in my way now!!

I am presently working in an LTAC to pay for my education through Excelsior College. I am anxious, scared, and excited-all at the same time.

I love this forum-it is great to have a place to go to get answers to anything that's nurse-related!! We can do it!!

Well, I've been posting here and there..found this, and it's awesome!!:w00t:

I'm 34, almost 35. I'm about 4 months away from graduation in my ADN program, will probably get my BSN online. Haven't decided what school to go for that yet. I'm in PA, going to a community college that has a very greuling nursing program that is renouned for its graduates...and believe you me, so is the study work and clinical paperwork!! :selfbonk:

I am married and have a cat. That's it! I have a scholarship through work, and I work weekends, day shift. I work as a ST in my OR, so the work isn't that hard, although, some days I work a solid 8 hours, with no breaks or lunch. But then again, this is nursing, right? What is a break? Describe that to me?

Well, I gotta get back to bookwork here...I was scrolling for info on my online class and found this thread...

My! How one gets side tracked!!

I just graduated with my LPN at the end of '06. I was going to do a fast-track program with ISU, but it turns out that the college sucks (and I refuse to give them anymore time or money) and now I'm not sure how I will get my RN. But I'm getting pre-requisites while I think about it.
