Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Go ahead and introduce yourself to our little online community!

I suppose I'll start. I completed an LVN program in the Los Angeles area in October 2005, passed NCLEX-PN in January 2006, and have been working in LTC in Texas throughout the past 2 years. Since August 2006, I've accrued 38 credit hours worth of prerequisite classes toward a local LVN-to-RN bridge program.

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTC/Geriatric.

I'm currently an LPN student---just finished first of 3 semesters today!! I'm 31 and have wanted to be a nurse forever! I'm finally doing it and REALLY ENJOYING school so far!

At this point, my plan is to work in acute care upon graduation, but I'll likely need to do a few months in LTC before going on to acute care. I'd ultimately love to work on the post partum ward, or L + D if it's opened up to LPNs in my province. :nurse:

Specializes in Mother-Baby, Rehab, Hospice, Memory Care.

Graduated from Concorde Career Institute in Arlington, TX in April 2006, licensed shortly after. First job was for 6 months in LTC. Moved back to WA state then worked 6 months in a subacute Medicare rehab unit until I got a my dream job in a hospital Mother-baby unit. I plan on staying here for a while and I hope to get my RN in the next few years. My goal is to some day train to work in the NICU.

I'm 25 yrs old. I graduated in 2005 and have been working with clients with developmental/physical disabilities ever since. It's a very rewarding and sometimes challanging job. I have no kids, live with my boyfriend of 5 yrs. Our "kids" are our pomapoo Logain, and 2 parrots.

Hi I am 18 and have always been in kind of a hurry. I graduated a year early( I was homeschooled) and then did a LPN program here in New York State. I took my boards on Oct. and have a new job(only 2 weeks) at a large family practice. So far I am liking it. I have wanted to be a nurse as far back as I can remember. My goal is to get some experience and to continue attending my local CC to begin to work on my pre-reqs to enter an RN program. I am slowing down now because I realize I have a lot to learn.

Hi everyone. I graduated from Del Mar College in Corpus Christie Texas in 1986 as an LPN with an associates degree in applied science. Basically took pre-req RN courses while going through the LPN program. I currently have 96 credits toward the RN. My goal is to complete the last 3 classes I need to then enter the LPN to RN Bridge Program. I have been working in the medical field since I was 16 years old. Started in the X-ray dept of St. Mary's Hospital in MPLS, and moved forward and nursed mostly in Internal Medicine and Cardiology arena's. My favorite job was working in a heart cath lab. I'm an oldie but a goodie!:lol2:

I graduated August 2007 and got my license Sept 10,2007. I work in a LTC facility. I was asked by my boss last week if I would like to train to be the PRN nurse supervisor when the regular supervisor is off. I'm really up for the challenge. I like to stay busy and problem solve. I am enrolled in Excelsior college and I am working on my test # 3 of 8. My long term goal is to get my masters in nursing and be a patient educator, a nurse recruiter or nursing instructor.

Specializes in LTC, office.

I have been an LPN for a little over 15 years now. I worked the first seven years in LTC. I love caring for geriatrics, but working nights and the management and general atmosphere of the place got to me. Went in search of something else and landed in a clinic. I now work as primary nurse for a general surgeon. I love the hours; you can't beat Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. I work 30 hours, so i get a day off during the week. It gets stressful, don't get me wrong. But in general I really can't complain.

Specializes in general practice clinic.

I graduated December '06, licensed March '07. I've worked in general practice for 4 years as a Patient Care Assistant before going to LPN school and I"m still in clinic work, just for a different doctor. I confess I'm getting some bored now, so am thinking about taking some pre-req night classes for my RN. Let's see, I should maybe graduate somewhere around my 60th birthday?:rotfl:

Hi, just a word of caution from an old timer.I am sure you must be a good nurse or else you wouldnt have been asked to do the PRN sup job, BUT it would be worth thinking long and hard before you accept it. You have only been out of school for a few months, plus you are an LPN, not RN-even an RN with only a few months of experience isnt safe in the sup position. Get a few years experience first,Id say. Remember, its your liscence, you worked hard to get it, keep it safe.JMHO.
