Just thought I would start a thread to see hopw many of us will be starting the nursing program in Spring or Fall of 2006. R.N or L.P.N.? I just got my acceptance letter for R.N. and am so excited. Who's with me!?
I'm in for April 2006 BSN program.
I'm 29 and have two little ones (ages 1 & 3). This is a career change for me as well. I was previously a Social Worker for Children's Services. Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom. I hope to one day be a Pediatric Nurse. Glad to have found this wonderful site where we can all share experiences and info!
NO! Actually, they were so friendly, polite and laid back I was shockedI live between Texas and Indiana, but I decided to go to school in Indiana. At the school I went to in Texas they were, well, "uptight". Don't get me wrong, it is a great school, but the disorganization and red tape is a nightmare!
The school I am attending now does not even ask up front for a drug test or background screening! I was floored! In Texas, you pee in a cup for to get in line at the local Starbucks. The director said they are just now getting a vendor to handle this since some of the hospitals say they will start requiring it for students in 2006.
When the director started talking about how you could flunk out or get kicked out, she kept saying how she was sure that would not happen to any of use and if we studied hard, read out handbook and asked for help when we needed it we would all pass! Again had to pick my jaw up of the floor she was so positive.
Thay had all our paperwork and handbooks and information all ready for us. They even had a fantastic Powerpoint presentation THAT ACTUALLY WORKED! She could answer every question in the Q&A!
The cookies, lemonade, coffee and other refreshments were yummy!
I was scared before, but they put me at ease.
Oh that sounda awesome! I hope mine goes as well :)

Did they scare you with all of the " half of you won't make it" stuff??
I was surprised at how laid back my school was at orientation also. The program director said that they were "liberal" with second and third chances and that they have a really great tutoring office. It was not at all what I had expected. It wasvery encouraging. :)
I have to have all the blood work, physical done too. I was doing pretty good with everything, but got my immunization record from my old high school. It looks like I was not immunized for mumps, and had only one measles vaccination when you need to have two. Slight problem. I cannot have the immunizations now, since I am pregnant. I have blood work scheduled for tomorrow, so I can have a blood titer done to check for immunization. But, if I have never been immunized for mumps, how can it come back in the acceptable range? Oh, I am worried now!
I completed my CPR training last week, the first part of my TB test, my physical and have my hepatitis vaccination scheduled for next week. Anyone ever dealt with this?
We had to do our physical and immunizations before we applied.
Anyway, about your situation. Maybe you had the mumps when you were little, maybe the school just wrote the wrong thing, maybe you were around someone who had the mumps and you built up an immunity????
I hope it goes well for you, and good luck with your pregnancy. :)

we will have our orientation in february. I can't wait to get a first glimpse of how it is going to be becaue although my school has an excellent rep., it is a bit more self-paced than others and and that could be good or bad depending upon how much support they have, and how willing the staff is to help you through difficult information. Anyway congrats to all!
