Rock the Vote Tomorrow!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Tomorrow, we will be making history, no matter who we are personally supporting. It is an exciting time and I am hoping that we flood the polls tomorrow.

One of the things I love the most about allnurses is that while we may have differing opinions, the fact is that as nurses, we are out there doing the best we can to advocate for patients, give good care with the constant constraints and also give time to our personal lives. This is why I say ALL nurses, LPNs, RNs, BSNs, MSNs, NPs and Doctorates ROCK! And we have something to say about what is happening with our country and patiet care.

Be safe tomorrow, and most importantly, enjoy yourselves. No matter what the outcome will be, we'll all have memories of what we were doing during this historical moment to share with our loves ones and here on these forums!:yeah::heartbeat

I'm voting in a few hours! I don't care if there's a line...I'm chatty, I'll just make new friends!:D People will stand in line for groceries, to get into a club, etc. etc....why not stand in line to be a part of history and make a change? It doesn't matter who you support, just cast your vote and make your voice heard. Some people never get that chance.

While I have serious issues with the person who is more likely to win, it is refreshing to see people actually care about the political process.

"People" have always cared, about the political process. It's just, some people may have lost hope, with the process, the issues, or the candidates,in the past. Maybe they didn't think their voice counted. Well, this election, may be different. This is a historical election. It's an exciting time for many. Go Obama.:wink2:

thanks, but allow me to correct and say that collectively, we are awesome!

this was monumental for me. i told my son i wanted him to go with be before he goes to class this morning, that if he was running late, i would even pay a taxi. we decided to walk to the polls at 5am, 5 blocks from where we live. so, i got up at 4am, started walking and got there by 5:20am and saw a 1/2 city block long crowd (about 50 people). saw elderly women at the front of the line sitting in their lawn chairs with coffee, blankets and tea! they must have been there since 4am! as we walked to our place in line, people who didn't know each other gave each other such warm greetings!! saying to total strangers "i am glad you are here!" people texting their friends, calling them on their cells telling them to come on. people who saw the frail and disabled letting them in front. people chartered buses and vans were quietly walking out in single file, quiety, with quiet determination in their faces. people with thermoses and paper cups offering each other coffee, water and tea. seeing people i have not seen in years, meeting first time voters. i saw mothers bringing their children to vote for the first time, and i heard their conversations, children saying "mom, i'm glad you made me come do this today!". parents bringing in their toddlers and school aged children saying "look at history!". old school songs playing..."ain't no stopping us, now", etc... people offering total strangers rides to the polls, saying "c'mon...get a ride", people passing by on buses and cars shouting at the pedestrians saying "go vote!!".

my son was so nervous, because he didn't want to miss class, and he looked uneasy, especially because he has registered several times and his name has not shown up yet. i asked him if he wanted to take a stand today, because this is it!! this is history in the making. years from now, we'll be talking about what we did on november 4, 2008...did we vote? i asked him if he wanted to be able to say that he did something! my son has a social phobia, and is deathly afraid of being in crowds because of the potential for violence; this is why i wanted him by my side today, and i said that i am here for him to make a stand, and he has to ask for an affidavit for an absentee ballot. when we got inside, my sweet, social phobic son walked up to the volunteer and said confidently "you probably won't find my name, but i am not leaving without voting. i registered several times with no results, and i plan to be counted today". i had such pride in my eyes for my son!

my husband voted for mccain and palin...that is okay with me. he votes in a different area because he didn't report his change of address when we got married, and we got home at the same time. i asked him who he voted for and at first, he looked uncomfortable, but told me, and i still hugged him. it doesn't matter...you can love even if you don't agree. he explained why, and i respect his decision, because no matter what, we will still be together, and respect each other.

as you all can see my avatar, you can plainly see who i support, but you know what...it doesn't matter... what obama did do, win or lose is give a group of people hope, gave incentive to vote and brought us together for one day, and i thank him for this from the bottom of my heart, because he gave me today, november 4, 2008. i saw my son, who has challenges speak up for himself. we all connected, for today. that was all i needed.

obama 2008!

I voted yesterday.

I'm glad there's so much enthusiasm about this election.......at the very least, it's got people interested about politics again, and that's a good thing!
