RN's what was your occupation while in nursing school?

Published

I live in Nc and here they have CNA ll and the program sounds interesting. The job description is a basically more advanced training than a cna 1. I know it isn't all about money but I want to be comfortable while in school and not so stressed. I had bad experiences as cna 1, in a LTCF and it just turned me off. I was so tired and stressed I couldn't get work done. A Cna ll is kinda like pca/pct. Alot of hospitals and hospices are hiring for them. My thing is I can't find the pay rate and difference in pay from cna 1 to cna 2? The program is $700 and is for 8 weeks.. does the sound like it's worth it? what did you do while in nursing school?

Specializes in Inpatient Oncology/Public Health.
Did you get straight into the program and was it hard finding a job as a adn? @ melizerd

You'll find this is a "hot button" topic on here but I had a job before I graduated my ADN program and I've been offered a job everywhere I've interviewed in 2 states across the country from each other. I've worked oncology in hospitals the past 7 years.

Specializes in Med/surg, Onc.

I think the first job is a hot topic because people only complain when things go badly lol. So while there are some places that ARE really tough for new grads I don't think it's that way every place or even most places.

No one posts: and nothing happened everything was fine lol.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Float Pool, MICU, CTICU.

While I was in nursing school, I had three jobs (at the same time). Plus a full time BSN program. I worked in a call center, I worked as an assistant in a local hospital, and worked as an instructor/adviser for a high school group. Plus I took care of a terminally ill family member. Little bit of everything.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I was a medical records scanner during my first year of my ASN and a medical records scanner and patient care tech during the second year of my ASN. Working both a day job and a night shift job during nursing school was loads of fun!

I was a full time stay at home mom. :) I did occasional photography work (I was a photographer prior to being a nurse), but went WAAAY down with the number of clients I booked when I was in school. I honestly can't imagine holding a real job. I know people do it, people did it in my class - but MAN, it was a stressful time for me, and all I did was cart kids around. :)

I worked for an insurance company during LPN school..and worked as an LPN (part time) and the insurance company during my RN program.

Now in my RN to BSN, I'm working as an RN and still at the same insurance company :)

Brandy...I actually make more as a nurse. I worked in accounts payable and was not a CPA. I have wanted to be a nurse for 20 years but couldn't go to school for it because there were no night/weekend programs. But there was for accounting which was plan B. Now I can do what I've wanted to do.

But I do miss the hour lunches :)
