Reserve Bonus

Hello all! Does anyone know if the reserves of Army, Navy or AF are offering signing bonuses?

Featured Replies

Ouxphys I would recommend speaking with a healthcare recruiter for each respective branch to see what is offered for the current FY. Cheers.

The AF is offering loan repayment as of 2 months ago, per one of our new nurses who just graduated from COT (officer basic). It was $80k for 4 years. There was no accession bonus, however.

Flight nursing just offered a retention bonus but don't know if there is a hiring bonus.

Current USAF Reserve accession bonus for flight nurse is $60,000 for 6 years. Its paid $20K per year for first 3 years.

When I signed my contract last year the Army was offering a sign on bonus of $15k a year for a 66S. Definitely connect with your local AMEDD office.

Critical care.

Army reserves has $25K / year accession bonus for 66E

66T (Trauma Nurse) and 66S (Crit Care Nurse) have $15k/yr retention bonus for 2, 3, 4 year contracts. I do not recall seeing a sign-on bonus, but they offer the loan repayment and once you have a critical ASI of S, T, E you can apply for the bonuses. Keep in mind, all bonuses will be taxed...heavily, and you must claim them as income each year come tax season. With a 15k bonus you'll get about 10k.

How's the army going? As a newb, I'd love to learn about your experience.

To be honest it’s different than I expected. Not bad just different. You will get out of it what you put in. You have to be a go getter or you’ll miss the opportunities. (You have to look for them.) & there’s some really awesome people to meet. Last but not least I’ve learned they’ve got the hurry up & wait game down to a science. Lol

I’m still waiting to go to DCC in September & hopefully get BOLC scheduled in November. Once those are completed then I can actually become more involved & productive

May I ask what you had in mind versus the reality? I've found federal employment to generally be a drag so I'm sure there's some similarity. I miss my old practice which closed.

For me, applying for direct commission was more about being in the army, albeit as a reservist, more so than being a nurse. I wanted to be an officer all my life and even had plans for it. I'm not sure where they derailed. Having said that, I know there's little "soldiering" to do for reservists much less officers much less nurses. My former coworker an army psychiatrist was biding time for retirement. The major encouraged me but said I'd hate "battle assembly." So....yeah.

What do you find yourself doing on your weekends?
