Really America?

The rest of the world is stocking up on toilet paper but Americans are stocking up on bullets.

Coronavirus Fears Spur Sales of Ammo & Survival Gear

It's the coronavirus, not a zombie apocolypse. ?????

Specializes in Emergency.

Crossbow & our large deer population takes care of food. Well water with hand pump for hydration. Have sycamores, so tp not an issue. No need to stock up on shells, simply racking the mossberg does the trick.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Women's Health, LTC.

I live in Texas, and I went to the local HEB the other night. People had lost their dang minds. NOT ONE roll of TP or paper towels in sight.

There was a sign on the butter they were limiting it to three units per customer. What?? Butter??

I saw a family of Mom, Dad, 2 teens and one younger kid. Each was going through the checkout with a basket full of TP.

Thank goodness I live alone and do not need as much, but I cannot help but wonder what they will do with all this TP? Are they selling it on the black market? And why 5 baskets filled to the brim of TP?

I never use hand sanitizers, just good old soap and water. I also noticed all the bleach had limits on it. I was just trying to get some foaming bleach for my bathroom, normal usage and NONE!

I know we should prepare, but there is such a thing as going overboard.

I don't get it either.

I had a boyfriend years ago who was in the "bullet" camp. His philosophy was that he didn't need supplies....he just needed to know who has the supplies (as evidenced by the ones coming home with the dumptruck of cases of water and toilet paper)---and he had the bullets to get those supplies when TSHTF.

Nice, eh? Americans. Afraid of absolutely every thing, every one, at all times. The media makes sure of it.

IKR. I heard a great advert once about using TP and paper towels---and I have banned PT from my house altogether because of it (and my mother is one of those old timers who simply CANNOT EVER use anything OTHER than a paper towel for EVERYTHING---so it has led to multiple confrontations)--

the advert gave the statistics of the energy it takes to make a roll of paper towels---from the diesel of the loggers' chainsaws, trucks and equipment--to transportation of the timber--to the caustic and toxic chemicals needed to reduce the wood pulp--to the billions of gallons of water that can never be reclaimed to process the pulp---to the plastic packaging that also goes right back into a landfill or swallowed by some poor creature---and then finally to your house where usually, they end up in a landfill anyway. Let's not go into the animals displaced and killed in the harvesting of timber or the pollution in the air that effects all of us.

In the end...the narrator says, "USE A RAG".

Geez. It's not rocket science. Just like people who insist on the whole Pampers thing. Just far too much trouble for the average person to RINSE A CLOTH DIAPER or reuse a rag by rinsing it.

Yeah. I get the whole "but but but but but.....water." thing. But until the taps run dry and there is no longer any ground water for wells---I don't think we're in danger of running out of water to rinse a dirty rag.

One positive thing may come out of this mess though---people may just start WASHING THEIR HANDS and keeping their immediate environments clean.

I don't get the butter thing, either. Maybe they think they can consume it like the Iditarod mushers do?

What a horrible person your ex boyfriend was! Some people are buying ammo to protect their families from people like your ex no doubt. Hopefully if he ever tried that he'd get shot by the homeowner first. Sometimes I feel like I don't want to take care of anyone because of the terrible behavior of some people. Selfish, mean, and stupid. Sorry for the rant.

Not to worry!! Trump can come and throw rolls of paper towels at you and rally at the same time.

s'OK. He was arrested years later for assaulting a woman he was dating. I dated him for about 6 months. THIS was the least of my concerns ?

I think the biggest takeaway from interactions with people like him---choose your circle wisely. Loyalty and honesty is going to become such a value principle, that even money loses it's supposed "worth".

Take care of the people you love. Try to do good. Be generous, but don't be foolish. If people don't reciprocate, you ditch them mercilessly. Nobody needs a leech.

He got what he deserved. I believe that the universe settles all scores---just not always in the way we want.

I’m being dead serious here, my dad actually makes his own bullets. He’s an obsessed hunter, starving to death will never be a concern in our home. We are a family of hunters. Except me, I shop for deals at Target.

Specializes in Psych (25 years), Medical (15 years).

Before we had indoor plumbing, we had an outhouse when my family first moved to the country in 1959. My Dad, years later, would play his guitar and sometimes sing Jimmy Dean's "I Won't Go Huntin' With You Jake (But I'll Go Chasin' Women)":

"Oh, it's springtime in the mountains
And I'm full of mountain dew
Can't even read my catalog
Like I used to do
I'm a-sittin' in that little shed

That's right back of the house
Here comes old Jake with all the hounds
But he's gonna hear me shout"

I remember using big ol' catalogs as toilet paper. This is my favorite verse from that song:

"Now I was headed for the general store
When a silly thing I seen
They make 'em in the city
It's called a magazine
I turned to page thirty-two
And lookie what I found
Them gals wear clothes that we ain't seen
Beneath them gingham gowns"

Catalogs: They're not just for use as "Wish Books" anymore!

Specializes in Med Surg, Tele, PH, CM.

Now I'm really panicking ?, I noticed we were a little low on TP and thought uh oh!

We are really "old school" we get two daily newspapers....I suppose newspaper could suffice. Or else figure out exactly which trees are sycamores and ??? use their leaves ??? I'm still not sure how that works? (See emtb2rn's post re: sycamores.)
