The rest of the world is stocking up on toilet paper but Americans are stocking up on bullets.
Coronavirus Fears Spur Sales of Ammo & Survival Gear
It's the coronavirus, not a zombie apocolypse. ?????
As a responsible American Gun owner I take exception to the characterization that any American interested in protecting and providing for themselves is some kind of slack jawed yokel waiting for Zombies to roam loose in the streets. Most of us are honest, decent hard working people who among other things believe in the establishment of a strong civilian militia to protect people when the government cannot or will not.
I have often been treated as a bit of a joke among co-workers who thought my efforts to be prepped were a an emergency to occur. While I would not go out a steal from my neighbors and would in fact offer assistance to those who need it. I would not hesitate to protect what I have built and the members of my family from the unprepared who are in fact the people out there stripping grocery store shelves for staples and toilet paper. In my home we will be planting as usual, baking bread, chopping wood and yes keeping guns clean and operable.

And that is exactly the problem, we cannot expect law enforcement to be there in time to assist and/or everywhere at the same time even on a good day.
There are very many responsible gun owners who get lumped in with the others that either arent responsible or commit criminal acts and IMO that is not fair or responsible.
I have also semi-prepped for emergencies and glad I did. Mostly because I lived on a fault line but also just because you never know what can happen. People expect the gov to be able to assist them in times of emergencies but they can only do so much, people should prepare on their own and not be so dependent on the gov.
Thx for your post hppy, totally agree!
I have no problem with owning a gun. My exMarine husband has one, in a locked case, bullets are in another location. I support red flag laws, licensing of gun owners, background checks, etc.
But when he dies, hopefully not from me shooting him ha ha. The gun is going to the police or whomever takes guns back

Many of those people buying guns (according to the news) are first time buyers because they are afraid of the current situation. Afraid people will break into their houses and know that law enforcement cannot get there in time. Also, many police depts are now not even arresting people for these type of crimes and some inmates are being released early because of the Covid virus (including those with robbery etc). This does not make people feel safe.

Just who I want for a neighbor, a frightened, paranoid, first time gun owner. Makes me feel so secure.

So you believe the news? Mainstream media is the reason store isles are empty and people are in a panic over toilet paper. In case you didn't know you just can't walk into a store a buy a gun - not even a Walmart and that's a good thing. There are all kind of safe guards In place to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. I am your neighbor and I will protect you if necessary - but NEWS FLASH - Criminals don't follow guns laws and they will take your stuff, assault your family members etc..... If I go to buy a gun today I can't pick it up for 15 days and I must pass a federal background check and a guns safety test. Plus the gun tax and other fees involved.

Our shooting ranges have been closed down because of Covid so the new gun owner who walked out of the gun store in my town with 330 rounds of ammo has no where to go to learn to use the gun. All of our "self defense" pistols and rifles have been sold. People are sequestered indoors with lots of emotions and alcohol available. I enjoy fresh venison and elk more than most but come on, you're not going to hunt meat with a pistol. I dunno. Hopefully I'm wrong but I think all the variables for higher rates of domestic violence have seen set in place with sequestration. I'll just stick with a tire iron:)

Well I also have a 32 inch 26 pound celtic broadsword but it's really hard to throw at people - I guess that where the Viking Axe comes into play!
Plus I'm only allowed to buy 100 rounds at a time for both my guns and there's a monthly limit. You don't really need lessons to learn to use a gun. They are pretty basic point and shoot. Threat assessment is a crucial component though.
Still yo each their own - as I have always said if you don't like guns do have them.
