I recently passed the nursing board exam in the philippines. Can I still apply for the NCLEX exam in vermont even though I have not yet practised nursing as an employed nurse in a hospital for at least 120 days(960 hours) during the last 5 years or 50 days(400 hours) in the last 2 years? Will my RLE's while I was still a student nurse be counted as having "practiced nursing for at least 120 days(960 hours) during the last 5 years or 50 days(400 hours) in the last 2 years?

yes, your RLE will take place in the absence of your actual practice (experience)... i did the same thing... please choose the 120 days and include a copy of your RLE.... goodluck

Hi! for those who applied for nclex exam under vermont, i need help in completing my application form please. How did you answered the section ' I have practiced nursing as defined in 26V.S.A & 1576' where i can either tick 120 days in 5 years or 50 days in 2 years. What is 26V.S.A all about? I have more than 10 years experience outside USA so shall i just tick the the 120 days in 5 years option and put the name of hospital where i worked? Many thanks.

please choose the 120 days and include a copy of your RLE which your school is giving you... i did the same thing after calling vermont.... they told me that is should bedone that way... so i followed... goodluck

Thanks very much mtjmnov for the info. By the way, how long was your training course at PCMC? Are you an RN now in Vermont?

I underwent training at PCMC for 6 weeks. I haven't taken the exam yet, maybe in March, next year and I am still here in the Philippines.

i was supposed to apply through NM BON but the new requirements (CES) made it quite longer than what i expected so i've decided to go through VT and pass my application next week. i do have a couple of questions:

1. is the "copy of your current license" just a photocopy of my current philippine professional license (the plastic one)?

2. what do i put in the "i have practiced nursing as defined in ..." if i dont have any work experience? would my application be accepted and will i still be allowed to take the nclex if i dont have any experience?

#1 - yes. Check if it needs notarization on the copy.

#2 - this was just answered on the last page. If you don't have experience, write "no" and include a cover letter explaining that you are a new graduate and don't have experience. It's not a requirement, they just want to know.

hi augigi, just wanna find out about the ss no as i dont have one yet.is that required to apply for nclex/licensure in VT. if able to pass, my ultimate plan is to work either in Ca or Fl. will have to get it endorsed then? is this the correct route? will go to an agency but will process this nclex stuff on my own. trained in the phil working now in uk.

you will not get a SSN until you are in the US and can prove that you are there legally, just leave it blank where it asks for it. Once you have passed NCLEX you just follow the state requirements for endorsement as long as you have gone with a state who will issue you with a license without SSN if SSN is required then there is a slightly different route to follow

Vermont does not require a SSN to issue a license. However CA does require one to endorse to CA from VT. So you could get your VT license, but you won't be able to endorse. I think you can get a letter from CA BRN saying that you are eligible for a CA license apart from the SSN so that you can get a job and visa.

Perhaps ask in the "Questions for Suzanne4" thread as I'm not sure about the endorsement part to CA without SSN.

I also prefer Vermont bec. they have simple requirements.Out of innocense or whatever you might call it,i already registered at Pearson vue without first applying for an ATT.I have a question about CGFNS cert.I already passed it 10 years ago. Will they still honor it?Bec. during our time,it is considered a lifetime cert.I also took my TOEFL and passed it but unfortunately it is already expired.I really hate these expiring certificates. We worked so hard to pass it and payed a lot of money for it and it will just be nothing after 2 years.Do you think its really stupid?....well i do

I also think that they stop requiring a lot of certificates or exams for nurses especially CGFNS bec. it is very expensive and some even thinks it is harder than NCLEX.And only some requires for it.And why do they still include english section and then lets us take again the Toefl. And to require for the credential certification is really expensive. My gosh!all nurses do is take exams....very expensive exams. Can they give us a little consideration?

I applied for vermont cos thats where i want to live and work, it doesnt

matter if my relatives lives in CA

CA will issue a tempoary license if you have a license in another state, you can complete the endorsement process while waiting and just submit the SSN# to them to get the permanent license when you receive it.
