Rank these classes by how hard they are

Can you please rate these classes on 2 criteria - difficulty of concepts and volume of material to memorize. 1 is least difficult and 5 is most difficult.

Why?

Psych is hard for some, science is hard for others. Kinda hard to get an accurate idea of the difficulty of a class if it's someone else's idea of hard, no?

For me it was like this, from hardest to easiest..

Microbiology

A&P II

A&P I

Developmental Psych

Sociology

A&P I & II were about equally hard for me and probably for most people, assuming you have the same professor for both. If I had to say one was harder it would be A&P 2 since that included the lymphatic system which is a more difficult concept.. Microbiology was the hardest for me, but that's probably because I took it over winter intersession (nothing quite like 4 months of information +4 exams and 10 labs crammed into 11 class days). Sociology was definitely the easiest, which leaves Developmental Psychology just above it and also a relatively easy class, compared to the other 3 above it. I'm not going to rate them with numbers because I think there's too much variability between individual schools and teachers expectations..

A&P courses rank about a 4/5 on volume, 3/5 for difficulty (it's all rote memorization). Microbiology is probably more like 4/5 difficulty, 3/5 volume.

Sociology is horrendously easy (at my school at least) and most of the concepts give themselves away by their very name - so 2/5 for both, maybe even 1/5 for difficulty.

Psychology I think is a little more difficult than Sociology, and I would say 3/5 for both.

agree with hobbes02

Here's how I would rank them (going from hardest to easiest):

A&P I (Concepts: 4; Volume: 5)

A&P II (Concepts: 3; Volume: 4)

Dev. Psychology (Concepts: 2; Volume: 4)

Microbiology (Concepts: 2; Volume: 4)

Sociology (Concepts: 1; Volume: 2)

A&P I was harder than the second semester for me because I felt like having everything grouped into organ systems and everything was easier to understand. Also, I would say Dev. Psychology is harder than Microbiology for me because my professor's tests are kind of everywhere and it's hard to study for it sometimes. So, the easiness or hardness definitely depends on the teacher you have and what makes more sense to you.

Specializes in Emergency Dept. Trauma. Pediatrics.

A&P 2- Physiology one for us, was my hardest, than 1, than Micro and Psych and Sociology were a breeze for me. It's all individual though.

Here's how I would rank them (going from hardest to easiest):

A&P I (Concepts: 4; Volume: 5)

A&P II (Concepts: 3; Volume: 4)

Dev. Psychology (Concepts: 2; Volume: 4)

Microbiology (Concepts: 2; Volume: 4)

Sociology (Concepts: 1; Volume: 2)

^This.

Specializes in Family Medicine.

1. Sociology

2. Psychology

3. Microbiology

4. A+P

5. n/a because my school had A+P 1 and A+P II combined as one class

I thought sociology was incredibly easy. Developmental psych is incredibly easy as well. For me, there was no real studying involved in doing well.

A&P II is much easier than A&P I (in my opinion).

I haven't yet taken micro, so I have no opinion on how difficult it is...but for the other 4, my ranking would be:

1. Sociology

2. Psychology

3. A&P II

4. A&P I

I'm no good at judging concepts or volume, but overall, that's how I would rank the classes.

Specializes in LDRP.

I am going to preface this with: it is not going to be the same for everybody. there are a lot of contributing factors such as: whether someone is a science person or not, who the teacher was, what school you go to, etc. but from MY experience I would rank them as such:

A&P 1

Concepts - 3

Volume - 5

A&P 2

Concepts - 5

Volume - 4

Microbiology

Concepts - 4

Volume - 2

Introduction to Sociology

Concepts - 2

Voulme - 3

Developmental Psychology (Human Growth & Development)

Concepts - 1

Volume - 1

this is just from my experience. my dev psych prof was really cool and we had NO tests. it was all in class discussion and like 3 or 4 essays, but I am a good writer so that was easy for me.

Soc was really easy, I just had a lot of projects and stuff so it was time consuming, but i never studied for any of the tests and came out with a B+..

Micro was the easiest science for me. I did some light studying and made a few flash cards for the lab practicals, but all in all it was pretty easy, as long as you had a good grasp on general bio.

A&P was just a LOT of memorization. No really hard concepts, but I had hundreds of flash cards and it took up a lot of my time. I found it to be easier than a&p 2.

A&P was less memorization, more physiology- so it was a little harder IMO. I had to read over the processes over and over for them to sink in. however, all schols teach the two parts differently, so i dont know how it is at your school. a&p 2 might be easier than 1..

Specializes in Psych.

A&P 1

Concepts: 3

Volume: 5

At my school, the large bulk of memorization happens in AP1. Bones, muscles, nervous system are covered the first semester. The physio was far less challenging to me

A&P 2

Concepts: 5

Volume: 3

Again, much less memorization, but the physio is MUCH more complicated. AP2 was my hardest prereq

Microbiology

Concepts: 3

Volume: 4

Now this may be skewed to me because I took it AFTER both AP1 and 2. A lot of the concepts were already familiar to me when I got here (ie cellular metabolism, DNA synthesis, protein synthesis, cellular transport). Memorizing the lab stuff and what microorganisms produce what result on which test and why was more challenging. Micro was my favorite prereq. It was like being a detective in lab :)

Introduction to Sociology

Concepts: 2

Volume: 2

This class was pretty easy for me, but then again, my previous degree was in another social science, so much of this course was re-hash for me

Developmental Psychology (Human Growth & Development)

Concepts: 2

Volume: 4

The concepts are relatively straightforward to learn, its the memorizing of which stage at which age by which theorist that is the toughy. This was a easy one for me too. I though General Psych was more difficult.
