I am scared! I have NEVER in my life been in this kind of situation.

Was called for a random drug screen this AM. I had one before years ago and of course, came back negative. I don't take anything on a daily basis that would ever cause a positive. I have legit prescription for percocet (rarely take) for a torn meniscus. I seldon resort to narcs because ibuprofen generally handles the pain without the yucky side effects of narcs.

My issue is that about a day ago I took a vicodin. I again, have a legit rx from my doctor. My only problem is that it is from a year and a half ago! I took the vicodin on my day off (would never take at work, Nor could I FUNCTION on it at work) and later ended up taking a percocet.

Both rx are from a year ago, almost two years ago. Not a doubt my results are going to come back positive for not only the hydrocodone, but also the oxycodone. I am totally petrified. I rarely take narcotics. The fact that I have two full bottles of narcs from almost two years ago prooves that I seldom take it.

I am concerned of what is going to happen.

They did not ask me to list any medications I was taking. I am sure that someone will call me when the results are back but am I screwed because these are old rx?

Please don't judge me. I already feel horrible and I didn't do anything wrong. Other than take medications I legally had that probably should of been tossed since they were almost two years old.

I am terrified I am going to lose my job or worse yet, be turned into the BON.

Try not to worry about what you can't control at this point, I know that's easier said than done.

Something your employer will consider; Were you taking the Vicodin and Percocet for the indication they were originally ordered for?

What a profession we are in when one lousy Percocet can cause soooo much worry!

One Percocet may or may not show in your urine drug screen.

You have a PRESCRIPTION for that drug! It does not matter how old it is. I have meds in my medicine cabinet that are over a year old.

Yes, we know medications over one year old need to be tossed.

So, you did not. The condition you have that requires that PRESCRIBED medication persists.

BREATHE! Do not be intimidated over one lousy pill!

carry the meds with you.

you can demonstrably show (whoever) that you have meds left over from 2yrs ago...

so you're not a consistent user, for sure.

as stated, there is nothing you can do about this except share with them, what you have shared here.

i'm sure you'll be a-ok.:)

leslie

it might not even show up. its just ONE

It is sad that we are in a profession that we can't take an occassional pain pill, with a legal prescription, and not be afraid of losing our jobs. After years of heavy lifting, bending, squatting, etc., my knees are gone and my lower back hurts. I take so many ibuprophens my doctor said "You are eating your stomach up!" Like you, I am afraid to take any narcotics. We can hand them out like candy to patients, some of which are simply seekers, but can't take anything ourselves! I do know nurses who take stuff like Xanax, with a prescription, but I am afraid to. I need my job!

I had a friend who, after surgery, was on oxycontin. He was doing an office job. Anyway, a random drug screen came up negative. Surprised the heck out of him. He had rx too of course but never had any questions from the test

Do they normally random screen? If not what has made them start this practice? Reguardless.....It's your prescription you should be fine.

When they ask for the prescriptions just show them, don't ramble on about anything. You have a script so leave it at that you should be good

yes, because everyone that comes here should first do a week long, exhaustive search of previously discussed topics so they don't dare repeat something that has "surfaced 1 gagillion times."
