That's really my whole question, if you're a NURSE you get me...
This forum kind of gives the big picture. I probably shouldn't post here as I'm not a real human nurse but a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). I work with animals both human and others. I don't offer advice in threads where I know nothing. I will sometimes offer an observation or two from someone who sees the medical field from a different point of view. I belong to a forum that is only for those in veterinary medicine. To be honest it can be quite boring at times as everything is the same. The venting is the same, the cases the same, and the moderators rule with an iron fist as far as who may post and content. I do post there and have gotten some good ideas. However I just see things through one set of eyes. On this forum, I get get to see many different mindsets. Since being here I have been able to work better with my clients (people) who are members of the human medical profession. Believe me in vet med, when a person comes up to you and says that they are a nurse, EMT, or a doctor, the shields go up on the veterinary staff. It's an "Oh Gawd" moment. Thank you for your your kind post rph3664.Fuzzy
Hello - just saw your posting on this thread, and I had to respond. You are one of my heroes for all the kind care you give to all furbabies. I am a dog owner and have been since I was in elementary school. I have been an RN since 1991, and just could not do what you do, I know how to not let things get to me, but I would be almost to the point of tears seeing those sweet furbabies coming in hurt or ill.
My hat off to you and your colleagues!

I really don't mind the students... its the random public that I want out. I could seriously rant on about this til the freakin cows come home but I'll refrain.... Tis the season :tree:
I hear ya ...
As the internet visibility of this site (inclusion in search engines, etc.) has grown ... so has grown exponentially the number of posts from the "general public".
This could easily be rectified by making allnurses.com closed - you would have to log in to view postings. I'm not suggesting that proof of licensure as a nurse or other profession be required. I just FERVENTLY WISH that the entire site was not viewable by anyone and everyone. Other professionally-oriented sites I have visited include that mechanism -- certain areas of the site are viewable by all, others only to registered users of the site.
tencat...Thank you very much for your kind words.Traumagirll99...I am sorry if I come across as "trying to tell you how to do your job" usually what I am thinking is that I will give you an answer from the patients perspective as to that situation. It is not my intent AT ALL to tell you what to do, I try to give some food for thought sometimes, if I see things being VERY one sided, and I see the other.
Hey Meg! I know I am always glad to read your postings, on various topics. You are insightful and compassionate no matter what the topic. I don't think you come across as anything but just that.
Many healthcare workers that have not been a patient or a family member of one, and sometimes need anothers views or prospectives. In your postings you always can convey your opinions and knowledge that can provide additional insight.

Right. I know it happens everywhere these days in cyberspace, but that could possibly help with some of the possible harrassing of other members, and the LOVELY trolls ect. we seem to get.

Sweetsounds......reading your question and then visiting this site for a month I too would like an exclusive site for RNs. I will have to talk to my son to set me up with one. (the geek) The need and availability for this venue in which RNs and only RNs can chat, vent, research etc......sounds awesome...I will investigate this further. hmmmmm

We went from a Nurse's only forum suggestion to a RN forum suggestion.
What's next? Only RN's that work at a certain hospital?
You guys can make a specialized site or use a list serv or make an internet news group.
On the other hand, you WILL find that extremely specialized boards get less traffic and quite frankly tend to be boing. Also, due to lower numbers, the costs will be higher because who wants to run a board for free...

I think that's a good idea, to have a members-only area on the board where people could post details that might betray their identity on the main board should a lurker find it.
MHO.

that said, allnurses, while a site where nurses help nurses is after all a business. i imagine locking out all but nurses would hit the bottom line and that's never going to be allowed to happen as long as the other people aren't excessively disruptive.
but, like sue said, the problems rarely come from lurkers.

Maybe allnurses could require that if we want to be a member we have to send a copy of our license, that states we are in good standing with our state Board of Nursing!!! Students would have to have the school they attend send in a letter stating they are in fact NURSING students if they want to be a member of allnurses. And if they quit school-no more membership at AN! Same for EMTs, PAs, FNPs, PCTs, CNAs, etc. Everyone better prove they are qualified to post on this site. Patients have to prove they are really patients by sending a letter from from their MD and a copy of the last financial statement from the last hospital stay they had.
Obviously this is all in jest. I appreciate the "differences" we all bring here. Be it nurse, doc, cna, patient, family member. Bring it on. I want to hear your POV from where you stand in this big wide medical world. Sometimes a valid complaint I Think I Have is not valid after all; when I read responses from so many different aspects of the healthcare world.
I learn something new here every time I come here. And what I learn does not always come from a fellow nurse!
My only request-Trolls NOT wanted here at AN!
