That's really my whole question, if you're a NURSE you get me...
Maybe when we start our vent threads we should specify that we don't want flames from those who haven't walked in our shoes?
! :chuckle
that would be hard to do, I have pretty small feet, so unless we wear the same size I don't think I your shoes would fit me. LOL
I think this is something that every public message board runs into. You can't control who responds to what threads, even if you request that only certain people respond. The only sure thing that can be done is to make it a private board or a forum. But then again you really wouldn't know if the poster is a nurse, cna, emt, student, or whatever.
So very well said. Having been on the receiving end of many non-nurse rants by soon-to-be nursing students about how horrible I am because I am realistically discussing my day I totally agree with your post.Maybe when we start our vent threads we should specify that we don't want flames from those who haven't walked in our shoes?
I remember one member who told me she knew exactly how it was to be a nurse becuase of her experiences in 'clinical'. Lol! :chuckle
I recently had a "not even in nursing school yet" poster tell me "you are too stupid to be a nurse"! Luckily the mods shut that thread down before I said something I would have totally regretted!---trust me though I said it to my poor computer!! LOl
Sometimes I start to type a response to a post but the adult in me thinks better and I delete it and never respond. This probably happens at least once a week. I realize I am a professional and need to maintain that even here.
And I thought I was the only one!! Oh, yeah, sing it! Where's my "yeah, that ^" sign?:chuckle
Stanley! You are so bad!! Shame on you.
I agree with the poster who said she will type a response and then the adult in her comes out and makes her delete it at least once a week. I am a new nurse and would never be so bold to criticize seasoned nurses when venting...ever..
I myself have started to post a reply to someone who isn't even in the medical field yet, who sits and criticizes those of us who are for venting. And every time, that big girl in me comes out and says.."come on now Pixie, you cannot have a battle of wits with an unarmed person"...and I delete it, but I do chuckle to myself as i am typing it...maybe one day that big girl will be sleeping off a hangover or some such thing and the little bratty girl who's typing the response can finally get to hit
Um.. the answer is no. No there is no such place.
Man wouldn't that be great though? What would you call such a site?
Something like "All....Nurses... .COM"! :icon_roll
Seriously the title of this site is such an oxymoron!
I vote that you have to submit your license # and be verified before viewing or posting on the site... yes, I don't even want them viewing... I guess thats going a little far? I just don't think its a good idea, or necessary, for lay people to be snooping around in our business. Nursing students are fine to view the forums, I'm not too keen on them posting either, but I'd take all the students to keep out one random lay person. We were, after all, all students once :) Though I was smart enough to know when to shut up unlike some ones on here...
I really don't mind the students... its the random public that I want out. I could seriously rant on about this til the freakin cows come home but I'll refrain.... Tis the season :tree:

How would submitting your license number and having it verified PROVE you are a licensed nurse??
Its not too hard to go to a State's BON, and grabbing any name/license number, and it would come back ok, since it is a legal license number to the correct name, just not the correct person using it.
I am new to the site, and looking through there is certainly alot of non-nursing people throughout. You can tell who are nurses and who aren't, that's a definite. I was told about the site by a co-worker and decided to check it out. I see even medics come to the ER nursing site. The license # might be the answer. I haven't paid for a prescription cause I wanted to see what it's like first. I'll give it awhile before I slap cash down to visit a site that isn't what it says it is. Allnurses
Ok, time for a serious post.
Sure, there are some vent threads where people are going to disagree with you or call you a bad nurse. Sure. Thing is, sometimes it's nurses doing that as well. Sometimes the issue of a thread doesn't require a nurse to pass judgment. Sometimes in a thread no one should be passing judgment. Nurse or not.
There is NEVER going to be a nurses only Allnurses. Many non nurses, pre-student nurses, student nurses, emt's and others contribute as much if not more than many nurses. I have even met a police officer on here.
Why, and just hear me out, would we want to appease a nurse that has posted 25ish times in the last 3 years when I, a student, have posted some 3500ish times in one? Wouldn't make business sense. The purpose of this site is to have a LOT of visitors and a lot of members. It is a business after all.
The only feasible solution is
I myself sometimes read these threads and interject a question or two so that while the OP may be learning something so am I. If no one cares to answer so be it.
If you vent and someone starts insulting you there is an (ignore) function.
This is of course is one of the things we all learn in kindergarten, nursing school and experience notwithstanding.
(Uh Oh - Stanley and his big mouth butting in where he doesn't belong again :) )
/puts on flame retardant clothing...

. If you ask for some technical question that only a veteran ICU nurse knows then if you see answer that has nothing to do with it, is way off base or obviously comes from a student or lay person IGNORE it. I myself sometimes read these threads and interject a question or two so that while the OP may be learning something so am I. If no one cares to answer so be it.

lol......I guess it'll be like men going into a women's health site. (Never understood that either) We'll just have to deal with it accordingly.
