That's really my whole question, if you're a NURSE you get me...
pretty much looking4seaglass is saying she doesnt want people like me here...
people who are [in her mind] stipid and could not possibly know anything about the medical field because we are a lowly patient. We could not possibly know that there is a better way to do something, we couldn't know that one thing works better over another FOR US. We couldn't possibly know anything.
actually what you first said was:
the need and availability for this venue in which rns and only rns can chat, vent, research etc......sounds awesome...i will investigate this further. hmmmmm
to me that reads rn's only, no lpn's...
then you said in post 46
stanley.....stan....stanerator.....lol...back away from the felt tip dry erase pens.....take a big inhale of 21% o2.nurses, rn, lpns......we are all nurses......however, patients are patients, medics are medics and students are students....see the difference, realize the difference....
and then at 9:59pm on 12/26 you said this
. i am looking for a site where rns are free to discuss their experiences without non-nursing mudding the water so to speak.
so which is it, do you feel that lpn's aren't nurses and are part of the non-nurses. or do you see lpn's as nurses?
ahh, either way, trying to have a site exclusive to one type of profession would be hard to regulate. anyone can claim to be anything they want in cyberspace. i don't see a way that you could prove someone is what they say they are. as i stated earlier, even requiring nursing license wouldn't work, i can pop onto almost every states bon and grab a name with an active license with no disciplines..does that mean i am that person?? nope, i could be that person's garbage collector, their doctor or their 17 year old kid..or just some stranger who grabbed the name and number.

which would be considered identity theft. (I'm not saying that you are pixie just making a point). I glad that people are not coming to this site claiming to be something/someone they are not. I would rather have someone be honest about who they are then lie about it to make others happy.
Tippy...I was not yelling at you. What I was pointing out as your observation was wrong, as far as what I said....Nurses....whether lpn, rn are the same....so your statement to me was confusing....I said there was no difference to me...
I'm sorry Loking4Seaglass but you used caps, so to me that was yelling.
Sorry that my statement confused you, yours confused me also.
I guess we can agree that we were both confused and misunderstood. (happens quite often on the net)
I don't mean to speak for Brian, but I think it is highly unlikely that AN will ever limit membership to licensed nurses only. "All nurses" means that all nurses are welcome here (within the parameters of the Terms of Service). It doesn't mean "only nurses."
As Stanley pointed out, truly exclusive boards tend to develop an isolated viewpoint and become a bit boring. The membership is much smaller. Growth reaches a certain level and then plateaus because of the vanilla sameness that pervades the atmosphere.
Yes, it's irritating to have someone who doesn't know what they're talking about pass judgment on a nurse who is trying to let off steam. But that kind of annoyance isn't limited to the non-nursing population. Plenty of times it's another nurse giving her peer a hard time, so limiting membership wouldn't solve that problem.
Even if there were a desire to make this a more exclusive atmosphere, it just isn't practical with the kind of numbers here at AN. Can you imagine asking thousands upon thousands of nurses to send in copies of their credentials? And who's to say that the licensing info they're sending in is their own and not their cousin's or ex sister-in-law's? Keeping track of all that data would be a board-owner's nightmare. Would people have to update their data with every name change or degree advancement? How many file cabinets or gigs of electronic storage would it take to organize such a mountain of material? And how much time?
Learning to walk away from non-productive comments is a highly useful life skill in real life. It's no different here. If some ignoramus posts a message that is off the mark or even borderline insane, having the ability to consider the source and resist the urge for prolonged engagement can actually strengthen your position. Many times I've seen other posters come to the aid of their beleaguered peer and tell a discombobulated attacker to kindly back off and butt out. There is something to be said for that kind of solidarity.
My suggestion to anyone who wants to vent only to their peers or who wants comments from just nurses is to make such a request in your initial post. Then if someone who is not a nurse gets in your face, by all means, report their post to staff or admin. You shouldn't be doing this with every post that is from a non-nurse. Some might be supportive even if they didn't follow your instructions. But if you make it clear that you are venting and really are not in the market for arguments or attacks, then anyone who roughs you up is fair game.
This is not to say that no dissent is allowed. Only that venting should be able to happen without harsh criticism and invitations to leave the profession.
Personally, I like the variety of posters on this site. We even have a few folks who came as patients or family members and decided to become nurses, in part, because of things they learned here. That could never happen on a nurses-only board.

I said those things? I think not.....
I read a lot of what you said to mean that patients could not possibly know ANYTHING about how the hospital works, we just don't understand. However that is not true, though I do not know everything that happens (I WILL admit that) I do know a lot. Both from observations, and from becoming friends with people who work there, and them filling me in.
Also, you have said that we shouldn't tell you how to do your job. While I refrain from telling people how to do their job while I am on here, if someone is asking for advise on how to do something, I GIVE IT. I have lots of experience of IV starts and blood draws on a person with horrible veins, ME. So if someone needs advise, I tell them what has worked with me, or something to make a procedure a little more comfortable.

Oh I agree this site has more than just All nurses. In order not to make anyone angry with me:D let's just say when I said nurses...I meant all nurses....okay.....

Where did I say that? You must be referring to someone else as I never said anything remotely close to what you are accusing me of saying.

There are quite a few other Nursing sites where one will find no public traffic. Allnurses has been around for quite awhile and I do not think it is going to change course and become a site only for LPNs or RNs now. Do a google search and you will find the site you are looking for. There are several.
