PVT IS DEAD! Don't try the "new" trick

Published

The PVT was never meant to happen. It was not some trick invented to give us results before the 48 hour quick results were ready, it was a computer glitch that allowed us the peace of mind of finding out early if we most likely passed. Therefore it is no surprise that PV found a way to fix it. Those of us who are already licensed got lucky. New testers are not likely to have that sort of luck.

There is a new trick circulating that basically says you can still get the good popup if you try to pay. There is a problem with this, if you put in your credit card information and it allows you to pay, there is NO REFUND if you actually passed. The PVT was never 100% accurate, and false fails were more prominent than false passes. So if you put in your CC and it takes it, there is around a 5% chance that you passed and you just paid 200$ for an inaccurate trick.

Those in states that allow quick results will have to wait 48 hours. It is 48 terrible mind numbing frightening hours, but it's worth it not to pay for a new registration. Those in states not participating in quick results, you should call your BON after 48 hours and try to re-register on the phone. They should stop you if you passed.

The trick was a sanity saver for thousands, and it is sad to see it go, but it was inevitable that it was going to eventually get fixed.

UPDATE

As of October 2016, many people are still reporting that the PVT TRICK still works.

I took it yesterday. It shut off at 105. I'm pretty sure I got the last 2 questions wrong. Tried the trick but of course with the way it works now I went to the credit card screen. I did what someone on here suggested and I put in a credit card with a low limit that I know wouldn't get charged and it just said payment declined so I'm thinking since it tried to send my payment through instead of telling me "that I already have an exam scheduled" (the good pop up) I failed. I hate doing all this and feel stupid but I'm just so anxious to know! I guess I'll find out tomorrow after the 48 hrs are up.

I took the NCLEX on monday August 25, I ran out of time at 250 question mark. I had tallied 55 SATA questions and was physically and mentally exhausted after the test. I tried the PVT and was disappointed because I was getting the credit card page. I felt so defeated and had already accepted failing the exam. Today 48hrs later I paid for the "quick results", to my surprise I PASSED the NCLEX!! Beyond excited and proud. Just wanted to share my story and agree that the trick is not working and or it did not work for me! Also thank you to everyone on AllNURSES for all of the great advice and resources posted on here!

I took the NCLEX this morning, and put in my credit card info. I have now submitted multiple times with the "good" pop up (and no money withdrawn), but it is still too soon to see official results from my BON. It's worth the risk if you are as neurotic as me, haha.

Utterly ridiculous. You'd deserve it if every one of those processed and you ended up owing an unrefundable grand.

Holy cow, the rampant sense of entitlement demonstrated on this thread is stunning. Unreal.

I'm also thinking that those who would like to call their BON and/or Pearson Vue to complain, I say "go for it"!! Absolutely, let them know you think it's B.S., and that you won't stand for this treatment.

Then be sure and give them your name.

Johndoe, congratulations!

Monkey-you are so right! And everyone on here and all of my classmates who didn't see their names on BON paid even after they did the trick just to be sure because everyone knew the trick was not 100%. They did not lose money and even if they had it would be minimal.

Besides, it is THEIR system and THEIR upgrade and no matter why they did it, it's done!

In a perfect world, they would give true "quick results" that say something like "the initial review of your test indicate a pass (or a fail), however the test needs to be scored a second time before results are confirmed" as soon as the test is completed. Wow-people that want to live in a perfect world do not become nurses!

First, thank you so much for the compliment. :cheeky:

Second, it would be so cool if they could do something of that nature, but since it is the board that ultimately decides issuing the license, they do have an obligation to get it to the board first.

Thinking about that, if a NB is down, and a digital transmission cannot happen, the result would be further delayed. If there is a power outage in the middle of exams, and a host of other problems, there would be a delay. I think the 48 HR window is sufficient to allow for any technical problems, repairs, plus verification, etc. 24 HR may not be enough to technically get the job done, in some cases.

Another problem I could see with an immediate 'preliminary' result (as in when the computer shuts down from testing) is what could go down in the test center. This is a pretty big deal. Can you imagine the inconsolable despair some test takers would have at failure, and the excitement others would have at passing, and the disruption that would create in the test center? The undue additional anxiety for those waiting in the lobby to start their exam? The anger--and potential for violent outburst--of someone who failed?

I think PV would have to appoint psychiatric staff to every test center in the country, lol. :wacky: And if we use the reactions most of us who have passed (or failed) felt at the time we got the result, that would be a pretty big job for any psychiatrist.

I wouldn't want that job for the world! I would rather empty bedpans all day long than deal with that job on a daily basis.

Monkey--well at least new grad psych students would have an easy time finding jobs!! :-)

Basically everything you said was why there was a problem with the trick. There were both false positives and false negatives. The trick did work for me, but I can imagine how horrible it would have felt to get the old good popup and then find out I failed. Phsychiatrists indeed! Maybe we are in the old profession. hehe

RNs and SOON TO BEs:

What ever happened to the saying "Nurses are flexible"? We are taught in nursing school to be flexible, to adjust according to circumstances. I believe we can apply that in this situation.

Change in inevitable, let's wait it out. 2 days for quick results is nothing compared to 2-4 years of Nursing School. You've waited 2-4 or even 5 years to be a Nurse why can't you wait for another 2 days for the quick results. I don't even want to dig deep in the PVT thing... It is what it is, we cannot direct Pearson Vue and the BON to do what they want.

God bless us :D

Lol this was funny :)

Lol this was funny :)

It was meant to be, glad to be of service :D

That is hysterical! :roflmao: Poor psych grads would so question their choice of profession... :wideyed:
