The PVT was never meant to happen. It was not some trick invented to give us results before the 48 hour quick results were ready, it was a computer glitch that allowed us the peace of mind of finding out early if we most likely passed. Therefore it is no surprise that PV found a way to fix it. Those of us who are already licensed got lucky. New testers are not likely to have that sort of luck.
There is a new trick circulating that basically says you can still get the good popup if you try to pay. There is a problem with this, if you put in your credit card information and it allows you to pay, there is NO REFUND if you actually passed. The PVT was never 100% accurate, and false fails were more prominent than false passes. So if you put in your CC and it takes it, there is around a 5% chance that you passed and you just paid 200$ for an inaccurate trick.
Those in states that allow quick results will have to wait 48 hours. It is 48 terrible mind numbing frightening hours, but it's worth it not to pay for a new registration. Those in states not participating in quick results, you should call your BON after 48 hours and try to re-register on the phone. They should stop you if you passed.
The trick was a sanity saver for thousands, and it is sad to see it go, but it was inevitable that it was going to eventually get fixed.

UPDATE
As of October 2016, many people are still reporting that the PVT TRICK still works.
PV did not get tid of the trick because they want our money, they got rid of it because it was inaccurate.
I do think this had to do PARTLY with money. Since the PVT was rampant, many people used the good pop-up as a "good enough" answer to their test result. Many people that got that good pop-up would not bother with the 48-hour quick results, seeing as though they could almost 99% know for sure that they passed or failed based solely on the PVT. Thus Pearson was not getting that extra $8 from those that believed the PVT.
Yes, it was not an official pass or fail but the thousands of students it worked for speaks for itself.
Also, I find it hard to believe money had zero reason why Pearson modified the site. I mean, they charge $200 to take the test...
I got the same message that was part of the old pop-up when trying to reregister and I took my exam today. I risked the chance of paying the $200 right away but is there a possibility that the pop up happens to EVERYONE who doesn't have Results available? I know due to the new update there is a possibility that it is no longer an indicator that the tester has passed. Anyone not get the pop-up and have the money withdrawn?
I took the NCLEX this morning, and put in my credit card info. I have now submitted multiple times with the "good" pop up (and no money withdrawn), but it is still too soon to see official results from my BON. It's worth the risk if you are as neurotic as me, haha.

I disagree with you completely. There is not evidence to support your argument. Not all nursing students even knew about the PVT, and in some states, your results are posted at the BON before the PV 48 HR quick results.
And Pearson doesn't set the fee for the test. That's all NCSBN setting the price.
While I get that seeing those of us complain about 48 hours and what not, this test is completely different. Its not, I need 60 or 80% to pass. Its not scantron. Its adaptive and so not very standardized. And, the simple fact that theyre making us wait isn't at all the same because they have the results. They don't need to review them, theres no logical reason for it.Now, nursing school has also changed. Its not really fair to compare your experience vs. Ours.
And, freaking out about the trick not working anymore is completely acceptable as it has worked at least 5 years, and all of a sudden changes. Hell, even the people in my review courses say that it works.... so expectations were set and now it makes unnecessary anxiety for those who are learning about it after the fact.
The questions are different, but the test is the same in that it determines if you have achieved the basic level of competency necessary to be granted licensure.
nursing school has changed? And the point is....?
What makes you think Pearson owes you free instant gratification? And how many posts are on this board from those who check, recheck, then check a few more times just to be sure? Is this healthy behavior?
When i took boards, there wasn't the level of hysteria so common here. I took the test with many fellow grads. Left with confidence, and a slight touch of uncertainty. Not a whole lot of sense to obsess about something I no longer had any control of.
We are in an era of instant gratification. We are sick with anxiety because we are not used to waiting for anything. I am too checking and rechecking... I feel sick because my test result is the only thing on my mind.
When taking a computerized test I feel like my anxiety worsens because computer = instant gratification. I took 1 scantron test during my nursing school and didn't feel this sick about it. I feel like we should go back to paper tests. I don't understand how they can figure out if I'm going to be a competent nurse in 75-85 questions.

Exactly. If I went in knowing the test results werent available for 6 weeks really, and paper test, or just that I didnt have the small satisfaction of getting the results almost immediately through the trick that has been around for YEARS, then I would have been mentally prepared and okay with that. Nursing school is a constant state of expectations that were drilled throughout our education in preparation for this test and now one aspect of that has changed.
Nursing is chaos. I excell at chaos.... when I expect it. For an exam I didn't expect this...
Yes, I'll wait. I'm lucky and have a 48 hour state. Nbd. But, I wish I knew going into the test that there was a change.
OMG... YOU'RE KIDDING!?!?!?!?!?
I took my second attempt yesterday (170 questions). I did the PV trick today (like last time) and it took me to the CC page. I have been agonizing and reviewing new study courses all day trying to decide which one(s) to purchase. So there's a chance I passed, but because the PV trick is dead, I've been freaking out!?!? My state is not real quick on turn around, they haven't changed my status on the BON yet.
Feeling HOPEFUL again!!!
