Proud to be in scrubs??

You worked so hard to get in nursing school. Yes, studying and clinicals are challenging, but aren't you proud to be able to wear your nursing scrubs that signal to everyone that you are a part of the nursing profession. How did you feel the first time you put on your scrubs and looked at your self in the mirror?

Reminds me of years ago when some of the nurses I worked with at the time decided to meet up for happy hour. We also invited a new grad that was working on our floor. The new grad showed up in scrubs, and had not just come from work

I remember having to wear white uniforms....then transferring to ICU it was awesome... wearing scrubs at work! We would even have a locker room and the hospital supplied them. Standard Ciel Blue.

Felt like I was still in my jammies. Love scrubs. It sure beats the old fashioned white pants, dress, tops and nude pantyhose from yesteryear.

OMG, seriously?? WHY? :wacky: I don't even like to grocery shop in them after work!

And that's a GOOD THING from an infection control perspective! I've put my shoes into plastic bags to take them home for immediate sterilization on the day I cared for a C. diff patient. Always feel a little dubious wearing used scrubs out into the world from work.

I wish I could find a place like HappyWife77's facility that supplied scrubs and a locker room. Does anyone do that nowadays?

I do enjoy wearing scrubs, but I'm still in nursing school so I am sure that will change. All I know is, the day I graduate from nursing school, I am burning this awkwardly-fitting, oversized school uniform and purchasing form-fitting scrubs. I don't work out six days a week just to feel like a whale in scrubs that swallow me :arghh:

The only time I wore mine was when I was trying them on at the scrub shop. I was thrilled, though :)

My university gives us 2 options: we can buy a set from them at the bookstore, or we can buy them (had to be Cherokee - Galaxy Blue) from an actual retailer. I assumed the ones available at school would be the same as the ones at the retailers, and would perhaps be cheaper. Well, they weren't expensive, but when I got home to try them on, they SWALLOWED me. And I had picked up the smallest size!

Back they went, and I dragged myself into one of the approved retailers. The ones I picked up there fit so much better, and were rather flattering. Even my lab coat is cute :)

We had scrubs with our nursing school patches on the sleeves. I was excited about adding the patch, but the scrubs... Eh. Can't lie, I burned them happily once I graduated.

Now when I got to wear the color for RNs at the hospital and people said " Oh, you're a nurse!", THEN I enjoyed wearing them, haha. But I still don't like wearing them anywhere else if I don't have to, no matter how comfortable they are. I see them as a uniform part of my job, and I don't want to misrepresent anything while I'm in them and not working.

Lol we also used to wear scrubs out for happy hour. And nurses who met up with us and weren't working that day would wear them too! We would ask them to wear scrubs so some people weren't cute while others a mess from work. :) we were vain. Plus scrubs always seemed to score us free drinks!!!!!!

self-concious and uncomfortable. I spent some many years wearing ems pants and boots, when I started nursing, scrubs and tennis shoes felt like I was undressed.
