You worked so hard to get in nursing school. Yes, studying and clinicals are challenging, but aren't you proud to be able to wear your nursing scrubs that signal to everyone that you are a part of the nursing profession. How did you feel the first time you put on your scrubs and looked at your self in the mirror?
I'm currently not in nursing school, though I hope to be very soon! I can remember wearing my first scrubs while in phlebotomy school the summer after graduating as a senior in high school. I was so proud! I knew I was beginning the next step of my life, and was happy to be getting closer to my goal of getting into nursing school and finally getting a degree! (I just needed medical experience to help me get in!)
I was horrified: I just spent $50 on a top, $50 on pants, and knew I've have to spend more to get them tailored! $20 dollars later 6 inches were removed from my scrub pants (I'm 5'7!!!). Who are these giant nurses? So, yeah, $120 bought me one set of scrubs. I was pretty mad at my nursing school for not giving us any other options. And of course the top was white, and on the last day of clinical my patient with a peg tube had a clog, which I didn't realize until the pressure shot the syringe out of my hand and his neon orange lactulose flew out of the tube and drenched me. I was so happy that happened on my LAST day of clinical... then I threw out the white and orange top forever!!!
Good heavens, NewYorker! I'm 6 foot and have to search and pay extra to get pants long enough!
I like my scrub pants, lightweight and easy care when I travel out of the country; with a regular top (love my kameez in India) they don't even look like scrub pants.
I started in the 70's with the Candystriper pinafore, graduated to shapeless white polyester uniforms as an aide, and finally years later switching to scrubs was a relief. I sew my own scrub tops, so I have a collection of nice looking tops that are unique (relatively). I am so used to being in uniform that jeans seem to be dressing up.......
