Pros & Con's of baby making while in nursing school.

Published

Hello everyone. I'm 26 I have a 7yr old son, and a 7 yr old stepdaughter. I start nursing school Jan 4th, upcoming spring. My question is what are the pro's and con's of conceiving a child during nursing school. Our children are getting older, and we are not getting younger. Please give testimony, feedback and your best advice. I have been contemplating this for sometime, while pursuing other degree's before this one. Please help!

I had my last child during nursing school, totally unplanned... as in a decade of not being able to conceive & then HELLO! I was lucky that all went smoothly. He was 3 months old when I graduated & I was 36.

I don't recommend it. You've got time.

Baby #3 was a surprise (birth control and I didn't see eye-to-eye, that one was an IUD baby)....anyhow, I found out I was pregnant with her the same week I was accepted into my school's nursing program. I ran into pregnancy complications with her and when she was born she had a birth defect that took us a few weeks to diagnose. All of those issues messed up my schooling and I was forced by the nursing program to drop my clinical that semester. They held my spot, but the whole thing pushed me back a year. Plus, I have always been one of those very lucky people who doesn't have to spend a lot of time studying and I still had to work hard to get through the nursing program. Adding a baby to that was very difficult and not something I'd openly recommend to anyone.

I am 36. My child is 2. We are debating a second. Most likely we will ttc in my final semester or after graduation (I'll be 37). All depending on what life looks like at that time. 26 is so not old! If I was still on my 20s Id wait until after I was licensed to consider ttc

I had my second child during Christmas break of junior year. I sat out spring semester and came back in the fall. I was lucky they were supportive of my choice.

It was very stressful finishing school with an infant. I did it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Honestly, there really are no pros of having a baby during nursing school. But there are a LOT of cons. You are not old & can wait until after nursing school when you can dedicate all of your time to the baby.

Man I am 26 and not even married yet. Trying to make me feel old lol?

Average marriage age in the US is 27 for women and 29 for men.

What's the hurry?

Having a baby in nursing school would be very difficult. I got pregnant after my last final (ooops!) and working as a new grad and pregnant wasn't a real treat, either!
