Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.

I'm thinking since the article was posted this week they are talking about how Democrats are acting now against Trump and Musk, and not in the past that you seem to be stuck in. The point was that during a presidency the President has to endure some opposition that can be ugly.
But yeah, if it makes you feel better, yet again, for the I don't know how many times now, I'll agree with you that those names are worse that *** Joe Biden. Does that make you feel better that your side said *** Joe Biden? I wasn't comparing the two but thanks for bringing it up...again.
People are still talking about it. Musk has voiced support for a right wing group in Germany that uses Nazi-ish language. Vance has criticized Europe for its censorship stifling a far right group he met with that has been fined for using Nazi slogans.
Again, while I'll fall short of calling this administration those names, I can understand where they come from.

Fascists will push that agenda until the entire world must acknowledge them. That's what they do, especially when the fascists have the power to bend other people and nations to their will. They will push until the pushback is painful for them.
The Musk use of a well known symbolic gesture while he verbalizes support for modern Nazis isn't a coincidence or an accident. Nor is it a coincidence that Vance made it a point to interact with modern day Nazis on a supportive level. Propaganda makes people accepting of unacceptable things. This is a process.

Agree. The government workers have committed a crime if they leak information. These kids are under no such oversight and don't suffer the same consequences for their leaks. I have never suffered a known consequence of a government agency leak of any of my personal data so I don't believe people who claim this is a problem. I believe that is due to the harsh consequences of doing so.

Yes. I do feel good knowing "my side" didn't engage in incendiary rhetoric that most likely lead to 3 assassination attempts on our sitting POTUS when he was campaing for the presidency.
Vance probably should step back from getting involved with Germany and their free speech policies considering their history. Albeit Hitler was successful because he himself censored speech. Did he not? Perhaps this is what Vance was trying to communicate?
He also should have not engaged as it only feed the narrative.
I think Vance is the type of free speech advocate for all speech to be free. Not because he agrees with hate speech but because by censoring hate speech, we have no opportunity to derail potential extreemism. Not to mention if some speech is to be censored then some type of authority needs to regulate it. This would probably fall on government. Which is never a good idea as Germany's history clearly notes.
Would you like Trump to decide what can be said or not said? I don't think so.
In conclusion all speech should not be censored as there is no way for any agency to do this without corruption. No person /leader can be trusted. As we have seen in history. The risk is too high. As per the theory of free speech. This was Vance's point.
Or Vance is just trying to set up his fascist regime. By telling other countries to not censor free speech. LOL

Trump has decided what a large body of water that has had the same name for over 400 years should be called. That seems like censorship, especially when he bars a reputable news organization from the Oval Office for a press event, because they use the longstanding name.

You didn't answer the question but forget it.
Vance did pretty well on the world stage. The US certainly has more free speech than Germany. Trump can lie and people can spread lies and fact checks or truth can't stop them because that's censorship. We can fly Nazi flags and be a part of the Nazi party and Germany can not.
If you think Trump and Vance have a vested interest in Germany's free speech I can't tell you want to think.
I don't think they are interested in Germany's free speech more than they are interested in the party they feel was censored because they are a right wing anti-immigrant party.

Trump issued an executive order which dictates removal of language related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. It describes fine and penalties for noncompliance. Is that an example of Trump deciding what can or can't be said?

Anyone here remember the beginning of the AIDS pandemic here in the US? Deja vue all over again. It starts and ends with language and who gets to speak without fear of consequences.
Tiktok is back, with some interesting differences.

I mean, the white house won't allow the AP into briefings because they maintain independence in their language and editorial choices but the cult believes and repeats every crazy projection. It's surreal.

I'll have to research that claim.
Here is a great break down of the executive order. No where does it say "removal of language" . And here is a quote that sums it up nicely.
Quotetake affirmative action to ensure that applicants are employed, and that employees are treated during employment, without regard to their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin,” and also required federal contractors (via the Department of Labor's implementing regulations) to, among other things, develop formal written affirmative action plans and submit annual reports with data on their employee demographics to the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (“OFCCP”). [1] The January 21 DEI Order provides that, notwithstanding the revocation of Executive Order 11246, “[f]or 90 days from the date of this order, Federal contractors may continue to comply with the regulatory scheme in effect on January 20, 2025" (emphasis added). Well he was interested enough to meet with them.

The White House did not tell AP they couldn't call it the Gulf of Mexico only that they are not welcome in the White House if they do.
The WH can decide on who is welcome in their press briefings.

There are lots of things not right about it. All of those "not right" things add up to a really big flashing warning that this is dangerous and un-American but we seem unable to acknowledge that because the people doing the not right things are wealthy. Or maybe the media is making it seem like these things are "right" and reasonable in spite of the evidence to the contrary.
