President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

The Republican propaganda machine?  No, I have eyes and ears.  It's been obvious since the campaign he isn't what he was.  Bernie Sanders supporters saw it.

There was a virulent anti-Biden subset of Sanders supporters who's social media behavior patterns were more aggressive and disruptive in their anti-Biden propaganda than the pro-Trump Russian operatives.

They launched a number of vicious anti-Biden smear campaigns on social media. Not your rank and file Sanders supporters.

Yet, thousands more kids in cages now then there were under Trump.

Maybe should have left things as they were until this "humane policy" and how to support it were ironed out.

So, as long he isn't as senile as what you perceived Trump to be, no concerns?

Beermiester, how about explaining Sidney Powell and the lies before anything else. My Irish gran says that you chop a large tree down with one chop at a time. I think Powell is a very large chop!

Dude? ????

You are a Trump supporter who cannot discern lies from truth or, apparently, intentionally cruel policy from other policy...it's just all the same to you. In your mind, talking children away from parents to detain the children and deport the parents is exactly the same as refusing to send unaccompanied minors back across the border while denying entry to family units.

How sad that conservatives believe that if an intentionally cruel policy exists, which targets immigrant children of color, the cruelty should be continued until more humane policy is finalized. How many ways do Trump supporters intend to demonstrate their lack of empathy or concern for children?

No I don't just think that Trump has dementia.  I think Trump is a mentally ill psychopath.

Activists are sounding the alarm about conditions of children migrants, and Biden apparently isn't allowing reporters in to report on conditions.  But I can only imagine that conditions aren't that good.  They never have been and Biden certainly had no time to fix that.

I don't think we've reached 2019 levels but I do think we're heading there.

Republicans certainly aren't outraged by the holding conditions of the children any more than they were during Trump's administration, but rather seem more intent on criticizing liberals for not showing the same level of outrage they did during the Trump administration.

I don't think Biden is getting a pass altogether, but I do think I am a bit more tolerant of Biden than I am for Trump because he is coming from a better place and that he's walking into a bad situation without much time to make conditions better.  And he's not separating children from their parents.

I never said Trump was senile.  I said he was mentally ill because his narcissism is self-destructive to himself as well as to others.  It would have been impossible for him to come out of his family unscathed.

Yes.

The republicans are certain that liberals are big hypocrites. They will crow about it constantly...like Kevin McCarthy does daily on his social media accounts.

Only Trump supporters are unable to comprehend the differences in treatment of children and it's proved everyday that explanation doesn't change their thinking. They've decided what they think and the right wing media pushes that narrative rather than the truth.

Even if there was only one primary difference between Trump border policy and Biden policy, that difference would be important.  The primary difference is that Biden's policy is not intentionally cruel or punitive in an intentionally cruel way and Trump's was.  I would guess that the secondary and tertiary differences center around building up processes for immigration or asylum instead of destroying them and providing some assistance to the dangerous regions to reduce desire to flee to our border. The xenophobia and racism that ran rampant through Trump's administration clearly affected our country's treatment of POC at our southern border.

Yes there were a bunch of people waiting in Mexico to get into the USA. Yes the Biden administration is refusing entry to the vast majority. Yes, too many minors are sent to the border without a family member and no those minors are not turned away as an adult or a family would be.  Yes, conservatives are desperate for the media to soundly label this a "Biden crisis".  These, of course, largely represent the same folks who would never place accountability for anything on Trump...ever...

Immigration is a cornerstone issue for the GOP...they will beat this horse to death because it agitates their base.  The conservative angst about taxes and the debt will swell to a fevered pitch as the country tries to pivot away from the Trump failed public health policy and addresses the failed GOP economic and infrastructure policies.

Big liberal...that's a shocker.

Very deep.  Very deep, Jack Pearce.

Good timing.  Biden at his first news conference will be able to avoid questions on the border crisis.

Hope you've watched Bidens First Press Conference today --- many questions and responses regarding immigration and border crisis.

Biden spoke with facts, figures and empathy.  He focused issue of  Mexico boarder crossing by children as a humanitarian issue and need to resume providing  assistance to Central America countries organizations providing safety, housing and food due to hurricanes, flooding and famine in the area ---which Trump cut off. President Biden said he would never let an unaccompanied child who arrives to the US border starve to death under his leadership.

Quote

"The idea that I'm going to say, which I would never do, if an unaccompanied child ends up at the border we're going to let them starve to death and stay on the other side, no previous administration did that either, except trump. I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it," Biden told ABC's Cecilia Vega.

The President compared GOP voting restriction efforts in many states to Jim Crow, calling them "sick" and "un-American".

Quote

"I'm worried about is how un-American this whole initiative is.  "The Republican voters I know, find this despicable, I am talking about voters. Voters. And so I'm convinced that we will be able to stop this, because it is the most pernicious thing."

Good news: Since Bien's surpassed 100 million shots in arms last week, new goal is 200 million COVID shots by 100 days in office --- I'm helping this target got my first Moderna vaccine  Tuesday and next scheduled in 28 days.

We should be confident that Biden's press conference remarks will be critiqued in ways we have not seen republicans critique a president's public speaking in years.

Are you serious?  Being babied by the media.  No questions allowed by Fox.  Flipping through his notebook.   Stopping and staring into space.

Still no concern for his mental decline?

Compared to the last Presidents ramblings in 2020, I have no qualms regarding President Biden's mental ability.  Nothing wrong with referring to notes when stating numerical FACTS about a topic.  He spoke for 62 minutes.

Easy read: Remarks by President Biden in Press Conference 3/25/21

There were 10 White House Reporters who asked questions, from broad range of news sources to get Biden's message out:

  • Zeke Miller, Associated Press
  • Yamiche Alcindor, PBS
  • Seung Min, Washington Post
  • Cecilia Vega, ABC News
  • Ken Walsh, U.S. News & World Report
  • Kristen Welker, NBC/MSNBC
  • Nancy Cordes, CBS
  • Kaitlan Collins, CNN
  • Justin Sink, Bloomberg
  • Janet Rodriguez,  Univision

As one can see from the press conference transcript, not all softball questions-- Cecilia Vega especially grilled him.over not allowing reporters into TX southern border area  immigration detention centers.
