Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm turning 25 soon and I want to be a RN, am I kidding myself? I only have a few general Ed courses taken and well I'm pretty much starting out from the bottom. I've taken breaks between schools and did not take it seriously from the beginning. I get discouraged because everyone tells me that the programs are wait listed and it takes like 4years to get 2 year degree. Anyone out there in my shoes?

I am turning 29 in November and I am awaiting an acceptance letter to an ADN program so no I don't think you are kidding yourself. If you read other forums on here you will see that there are many "older" students just now getting started on their road to the nursing field. I always said where there is a will, there is a way. Good Luck on your journey to becoming a nurse!!

I was 25 when I started nursing school.

Thank you for those words of encouragment i just found this website I will read more its nice to know that im not the only person going thru this ! :)

I'm 40 and am just finishing my prereqs! I know 25 feels old, but trust me, you're barely getting started in life.

I can (sort of) second that! I'll be turning 40 shortly and I still have a year to go in Nursing School. Yes, 25 feels kind of old, but.... you're just getting started!

Good day, christinem2388:

I just turned 50 this past May. I figured that it will take me 3 to 4 years to get my ADN for the RN program based on getting all of the prerequisite in. So I'll be between 53 and 54 when I take my boards, God willing.

Then I plan to get a job, and work on my BSN, then MSN ,and so on until I'm no longer able to work.

You are half my age; if I can do it, so can you.

Thank you.

Many people decided to become a nurse at this age including myself! I'm sure once you get accepted, the time will fly and you will be a nurse before you know it!

I'm 25 and while I don't feel like I'm necessarily old or young, I do firmly believe that it's the age to seriously act. If you're serious about nursing nothing should stop you! I'm starting nursing school in two weeks!

I started when I was 38. Today I precepted a student that is 58.

Why is it going to take you 3-4 years to get a ADN? I started my prerequisites this spring term 2013 and it'll only be a year long and then the clinics will also only be a year long. Does this sound right? Maybe you won't have to go to school for a long time to get your RN! 25 is young!

It will take at least 3-4 yrs to get an ADN, the ADNprogram is 2 yrs, plus pre reqs. In Cali it can take 2-3 years to finish pre reqs. My BSN took 6, i finished all my GE before starting my program. It's tough to get into the needed pre reqs when your class standing is low. For BSN pre reqs are a minimum for 2.5-3 yrs.
